Job Title: Splunk Administrator
Job Location: Remote- Canada
We are seeking a highly skilled Splunk Administrator / Observability Engineer to join our enterprise infrastructure and monitoring team. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in Splunk Administration, hands-on Python scripting experience, and a solid understanding of modern observability practices. This role will be responsible for managing and optimizing the Splunk platform, onboarding new data sources, automating operational tasks, and supporting enterprise-wide monitoring and observability initiatives.
In addition to Splunk administration, the candidate should be familiar with OpenTelemetry (OTel) implementation and rollout, including selecting and deploying open-source telemetry agents and collectors for gathering logs, metrics, and traces across distributed environments.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $90,000 to $102,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain, and optimize the Splunk platform to ensure high availability, reliability, performance, and scalability.
- Configure and manage Splunk infrastructure including indexes, forwarders, search heads, data inputs, role-based access controls, alerts, dashboards, and reports.
- Onboard new customers, applications, and services by integrating diverse data sources into the Splunk ecosystem.
- Monitor Splunk platform health and proactively troubleshoot ingestion, indexing, search performance, dashboard, and infrastructure-related issues.
- Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate data ingestion, operational workflows, monitoring processes, reporting, and administrative tasks.
- Support enterprise log management, monitoring, and observability programs to improve visibility across infrastructure, applications, and cloud environments.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, application, middleware, cloud, and security teams to implement monitoring solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards and technology roadmaps.
- Participate in the implementation and rollout of OpenTelemetry (OTel) solutions for collecting logs, metrics, and traces across distributed systems.
- Evaluate and deploy open-source telemetry agents, collectors, and instrumentation frameworks to support observability requirements.
- Perform platform tuning, capacity planning, upgrades, and lifecycle management activities.
- Ensure operational excellence by maintaining compliance with defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and operational standards.
- Support incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives for monitoring and observability platforms.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 4-8+ years of hands-on experience with Splunk Administration and Operations.
- Strong expertise in Splunk architecture, administration, configuration, troubleshooting, indexing, search optimization, alerts, dashboards, and reporting.
- Proven experience onboarding and integrating enterprise data sources into Splunk.
- Strong experience with Python scripting and automation, including API integrations, system administration automation, and operational tooling.
- Experience troubleshooting enterprise monitoring environments and resolving complex platform issues.
- Solid understanding of log management, observability, monitoring, and telemetry concepts.
- Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure environments including servers, networking, middleware, storage, and cloud platforms.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience implementing and rolling out OpenTelemetry (OTel) solutions in enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of OTel Collectors, instrumentation frameworks, telemetry pipelines, and distributed tracing.
- Experience selecting and deploying open-source agents and collectors for gathering logs, metrics, and traces.
- Understanding of modern observability platforms and best practices.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP monitoring and observability services.
- Familiarity with DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
- Experience working in large-scale enterprise production environments.
