Role: DevOps – ServiceNow Database Developer
Location: Atlanta, GA
Position Summary
The ServiceNow Database Developer is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of data models, data integrations, and database-layer components within the ServiceNow platform. Working within a DevOps model, this role combines deep ServiceNow data architecture expertise with broader database engineering skills to ensure data integrity, performance, and seamless data flows across enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and manage ServiceNow table structures, including custom tables, table
• extensions, dictionary entries, relationships, and database views.
• Develop and maintain data import/export pipelines using ServiceNow Import Sets,
• Transform Maps, and Data Sources.
• Build and optimize complex queries using GlideRecord, GlideAggregate, and encoded
• query syntax; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in database operations.
• Design and implement data migration strategies for platform upgrades, instance
• consolidations, or system onboarding initiatives.
• Develop and maintain integrations that move data between ServiceNow and external
• systems (relational databases, data warehouses, REST/SOAP endpoints, ETL pipelines).
• Collaborate with the ServiceNow Developer and Administrator to ensure data model
• changes align with application architecture and platform best practices.
• Partner with reporting and analytics teams to design performant data foundations for
• dashboards and Performance Analytics indicators.
• Implement data governance standards: field-level security, data classification, audit fields,
• and retention policies within ServiceNow.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines by managing database-layer changes through Update Sets or
• source control and ensuring schema changes are tested and documented.
• Provide expertise in relational database concepts (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL) as
• they relate to ServiceNow's underlying architecture.
• Perform data audits, cleansing activities, and deduplication efforts to maintain high data
• quality.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or
• equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of ServiceNow platform experience with a focus on data architecture,
• import/transform, and GlideRecord scripting.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational database systems (SQL Server, MySQL,
• or PostgreSQL).
• Strong understanding of ServiceNow's CMDB structure, CI relationships, and data model.
• Experience with REST/SOAP API data integration patterns.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices: version control, CI/CD, and structured release
• management.
Preferred Qualifications
• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) or Certified Implementation Specialist– CMDB (CIS-CMDB).
• Experience with ETL tools or data integration platforms (SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Boomi).
• Knowledge of ServiceNow IntegrationHub and MID Server configuration.
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and reporting platforms (Power BI, Tableau).
• Experience supporting CMDB Discovery and Service Mapping.

Roles/ Responsibilities
• Engage with stakeholders across IT, HR, Finance, Operations, and business units to elicit, document, and prioritize requirements for ServiceNow enhancements, new modules, and process improvements.
• Translate business requirements into well-defined user stories, epics, acceptance criteria, process flows, and use cases that are ready for ServiceNow development and configuration.
• Maintain and groom the ServiceNow product backlog in collaboration with the Product Owner and Scrum Master, ensuring stories are sprint-ready with clear definitions of done. Facilitate requirements workshops, process discovery sessions, and stakeholder reviews; document outcomes and drive alignment between business and technical teams. Produce current-state and future-state business process documentation, with a focus on how ServiceNow workflows support end-to-end service management processes.
• Analyze existing ServiceNow configurations, workflows, and catalog items to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and optimization opportunities; recommend platform-native solutions before custom development. Collaborate with ServiceNow developers, architects, and administrators throughout the delivery lifecycle to clarify requirements, validate solutions, and ensure business intent is preserved in delivered configurations.
• Support user acceptance testing (UAT): develop UAT plans, coordinate business stakeholder testing, capture feedback, and track defects to closure. Contribute to change management activities: impact assessments, communication plans, user training content, and release notes for ServiceNow changes.
• Produce and maintain data mapping documents, integration requirements, catalog item specifications, and service catalog design documentation. Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies throughout the sprint lifecycle.
Compensation: We are offering between $90,000 – $115,000. Applications will be accepted until Oct 9, 2026.Cognizant will only consider applicants for this position who are legally authorized to work in US without requiring employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
