Role: Senior ORACLE DBA
Location: Toronto , ON
Roles/Responsibilities
Mandatory Skills: Oracle, Db2
· Monitoring & health checks – Monitor instance/database availability, tablespace and archive log space, alert logs (Oracle) or diagnostic logs (DB2), and job/scheduler status using OEM, DB2 Health Monitor, or third-party tools (Nagios/SCOM).
· Incident/ticket handling – Own L1 tickets independently (connectivity issues, login/access requests, job failures, space alerts) and escalate deep performance tuning, corruption, or RAC/pureScale issues to L2/L3.
· Backup & recovery operations – Execute and verify RMAN backups (Oracle) or db2 backup/db2 restore (DB2) jobs; perform restores/recoveries on request, validate backup completion via logs, and confirm archive log management (archive log list, DB2 log archiving) is functioning.
· Space & log management – Monitor and extend tablespaces/datafiles (Oracle) or table spaces/containers (DB2); manage redo log switches and archive destinations (Oracle) or transaction log space (DB2), resolving "tablespace full" or "log full" alerts per runbook.
· Basic performance troubleshooting – Identify blocking sessions/locks using v$session, v$lock (Oracle) or db2pd, LIST APPLICATIONS (DB2); kill blocking sessions per SOP, spot long-running or high-resource SQL, and escalate execution-plan/tuning issues to L2.
· User & access management – Create/modify users and roles (CREATE USER, GRANT/REVOKE in Oracle; GRANT/REVOKE authorities/privileges in DB2), manage profiles, and handle password resets under change-control.
· Maintenance tasks – Run statistics gathering (DBMS_STATS in Oracle, RUNSTATS in DB2), index rebuilds/reorgs (REORG in DB2), integrity checks, and assist with patching (PSU/RU for Oracle, fix packs for DB2).
· Documentation & change execution – Maintain SOPs, log root causes for recurring issues, update knowledge base, and implement pre-approved schema/config changes during change windows with rollback plans ready.
Compensation: We are offering between $90,000 – $110,000. Applications will be accepted until Oct 9, 2026.Cognizant will only consider applicants for this position who are legally authorized to work in Canada without requiring employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
