With the arrival of AMP7 and recent market developments, Water Utilities in the UK have embarked on a transformation journey that focuses on sustainability (fewer pollution incidents, green energy powered water treatment etc.), reliable infrastructure(fewer flooding incidents, leakages etc.), customer centricity (affordable bills, enhanced customer experience), social responsibility(support for vulnerable customers), and most importantly disruption from innovative competitors entering the marketplace.

Cognizant has multiple engagements with water utilities in the UK where we are utilising our capabilities in data science and digital enablement to help them lead this transformation through new offerings, solutions and innovative business models that are aligned to the market trends and regulatory commitments. We are looking for experienced business analysts/consultants/product owners who are passionate about making a difference for our clients in the energy and utilities domain. Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with expertise in Operational Technology (OT) and Asset Management within the utilities or manufacturing sector. This role is responsible for leading projects that enhance asset lifecycle management, integrate OT systems, and optimize maintenance strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EAM/CMMS systems, SCADA, IoT, and reliability-centered maintenance while managing cross-functional teams to deliver strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management & Delivery

  • Lead OT and asset management projects, including system implementations, upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Develop and manage project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk assessments to ensure timely and successful execution.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including IT, operations, maintenance, and engineering, to align project goals with business objectives.
  • Manage vendor relationships, procurement processes, and system integration efforts for EAM/CMMS and OT platforms.

Operational Technology (OT) & Asset Management

  • Oversee the deployment and integration of SCADA, IoT, telemetry, and predictive maintenance technologies to enhance asset performance.
  • Support the implementation of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP PM, IBM Maximo, Infor EAM, or Oracle EAM.
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure and compliant OT system deployments.
  • Drive data-driven decision-making by integrating asset performance data with business intelligence and reporting tools.

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

  • Act as a liaison between business units, IT, operations, and leadership, ensuring alignment on project goals.
  • Develop and deliver training and change management plans to facilitate adoption of new asset management and OT solutions.
  • Communicate project updates, risks, and progress to executive leadership and key stakeholders.

Compliance & Best Practices

  • Ensure projects align with industry regulations, safety standards, and asset management frameworks (e.g., ISO 55000, NERC CIP, PAS 55).
  • Implement best practices in reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), condition-based monitoring (CBM), and predictive maintenance (PdM).
  • Support internal audits and regulatory reporting related to asset performance and OT systems.

Desirable skills and experience

  • Strong experience in project management, OT, asset management, utilities, or manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of EAM/CMMS systems (SAP PM, Maximo, Infor EAM, etc.) and SCADA, IoT, or telemetry systems.
  • Experience managing asset lifecycle management, predictive maintenance, and reliability engineering projects.
  • Understanding of OT security, industrial automation, and data integration in asset-intensive industries.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, or Hybrid).
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement, budgeting, and vendor management.

Preferred:

  • PMP, PRINCE2, or Agile (CSM, SAFe) certification.
  • IAM or CAMA certification in asset management.
  • Experience with cloud-based asset management and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Knowledge of ISO 55000, PAS 55, NERC CIP, or similar regulatory frameworks.
