About the role
We are seeking a highly experienced JAVA Full Stack Developer with strong expertise in modern web technologies to build and enhance scalable applications. This is a hands-on role suited for a seasoned developer who can design, develop, and deliver high-quality features across both frontend and backend layers while contributing to continuous improvement of the application stack.
In this role, you will:
· Design, develop, and deliver end-to-end features across the full stack, including backend services (Node.js/Express) and frontend components (Svelte/modern JS frameworks).
· Integrate APIs with external data sources, including federal and MedSupp systems, following spec-driven development practices.
· Perform peer code reviews and enforce coding standards, best practices, and strong TypeScript usage.
· Develop and maintain unit and integration tests using frameworks such as Vitest and Jest.
· Ensure production readiness through CI/CD pipelines and adherence to build and deployment standards (OptumCICD).
· Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve production issues across middleware, APIs, and client-side applications.
· Collaborate with product, QA, and DevOps teams to align on requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
· Mentor junior developers through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
· Identify and address technical debt while optimizing application performance (e.g., caching, middleware efficiency).
· Maintain technical documentation and evaluate new tools, frameworks, and upgrades to keep the technology stack modern and secure.

What you need to have to be considered
- Strong hands-on experience in full stack development.
- Proficiency in Node.js, JavaScript, and backend service development.
- Experience working with modern frontend frameworks such as Angular (2–8) or React.
- Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, and responsive UI development.
- Experience with Core Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
- Experience with API development and integration.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks such as Jest or Vitest.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex production issues.
- Experience working in agile development environments.
This will help you stand out
· Experience working with Svelte or similar modern frontend frameworks.
· Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
· Exposure to healthcare, federal, or insurance (MedSupp) systems.
· Strong understanding of performance optimization and scalable architecture.
· Prior experience mentoring developers and contributing to team best practices.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $60,000 to $93,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
