Cognizant is a large IT Consulting Firm that leverages modern technologies to transform a variety of business operations. This team works on keeping Maps Data current and reflective of real-world changes. They work on issues submitted by end users of Maps or test the location results of user queries submitted via Web Search or Maps interface.
We are seeking a highly motivated and internet-savvy Country Mapping Specialist with native-level fluency and a profound understanding of South Korea. In this dynamic role, you will collaborate with engineering and operations teams at every stage of the mapping lifecycle. You will be instrumental in the creation, maintenance, and strategic enhancement of Google Maps, directly impacting map quality and the overall experience for millions of local users.

Please note that this role is fully onsite in Bothell, WA. Only local candidates will be considered.
Role Responsibilities
As a Korean Country Specialist, your responsibilities may include any or all of the following:
- Data Analysis & Evaluation: Evaluate complex geographic data sets, imagery, and map layers for South Korea, providing detailed analysis and actionable insights to management
- Quality Assurance: Conduct rigorous quality control on new product features and map rollouts. Provide timely, constructive, and highly specific feedback to engineering and operations teams.
- Linguistic & Local Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for South Korea. Provide ongoing linguistic, cultural, and localized geographic support to various cross-functional client teams.
- User Experience Optimization: Interpret local customer feedback, monitor regional user satisfaction, and help drive programmatic updates to continually improve the end-user experience in Korea.
- Process Improvement: Diagnose inefficiencies in current mapping workflows, optimize existing processes, and provide ongoing technical feedback on internal tools.
- Documentation: Create, update, and maintain comprehensive documentation, localization guidelines, and resources relevant to the Korean market.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Language Proficiency: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Korean (Native or bilingual proficiency required).
- Cultural & Geographic Expertise: Deep understanding of South Korea's cultural nuances, naming conventions, and local administrative divisions.
- Execution & Time Management: Proven ability to deliver projects with the highest standards of quality and accuracy under aggressive deadlines.
- Problem-Solving: Creative and analytical thinker who can comfortably navigate ambiguity and solve complex data anomalies while achieving team goals.
- Collaboration: A dedicated team player with a resilient, solution-oriented attitude.
- Education: University Degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus. Foundational experience with SQL, Linux environments, and advanced spreadsheets (e.g., VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) is highly preferred.
- Geospatial Knowledge: Familiarity with mapping and geospatial systems, including Google Earth, KML, ArcGIS, or QGIS.
- Local Residency: 5+ years of recent residency in South Korea with extensive, practical knowledge of the country's unique road networks, transit systems, and addresses.
Hourly Rate and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $60,000 - $86,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
