About the role

As a Data Engineer, you will make an impact by collecting, managing, and documenting metadata and data lineage across lines of business to ensure data governance requirements are met. You will be a valued member of the data governance team and work collaboratively with data owners, stewards, developers, and production support teams.

In this role, you will:

· Collect metadata and lineage information for systems, key business processes, and data domains across lines of business, ensuring data governance requirements are addressed by business and technology initiatives.

· Develop and maintain system and attribute-level data lineage documentation, including data flow diagrams, process maps, and metadata catalogs.

· Identify data transformations and oversee metadata repositories and data lineage documentation to ensure traceability and transparency of data flows.

· Work across multiple teams and coordinate efforts on project engagements supporting metadata and lineage as a standard project activity.

· Collaborate with data owners, stewards, developers, and production support teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date data lineage information.

Work model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3–4 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, Ontario. What you need to have to be considered

· Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Business, or a related field.

· 3+ years of experience in data lineage, data governance, data management, or a related role.

· Strong understanding of data governance principles, the data lifecycle from collection through storage and usage, as well as metadata and lineage management concepts and practices.

· Proficiency in data governance tools, Advanced SQL, metadata management, and data lineage concepts.

· Proficiency with Python and other data querying languages, as well as Microsoft Excel (macros, formulas, and pivot tables).

· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive cultural change.

These will help you stand out

· Experience in AML, Fraud, and Payments domains.

· Strong understanding of software development principles, including design patterns.

· Experience with Big Data ecosystems (Spark, Hadoop), cloud platforms (AWS and Azure), and MLOps tools.

· Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).

· Experience working in an Agile development environment.
