Our Hiring Process

Your Application

Welcome to Cognizant! We are excited to help you take the next step in your career. You can start by applying to an open position on our career page, via LinkedIn, or by referral if you know someone from Cognizant.

Before you apply, make sure your CV is accurate and up to date. Stand out from the crowd by reviewing the job description and tweaking your resume to highlight skills that our recruiters are looking for.

If you can’t find the perfect match, please reach out to one of our recruiters. They will be happy to assist you with your search.

Initial Screening

Once a recruiter determines that your CV is a good match for the role, they will reach out to you for a short introductory meeting.

This is a way for the recruiter to get to know you a little better. You will receive more information about the position and discuss other benefits.

The recruiter will also briefly ask about your soft/technical skills, goals, and motivation. If you both agree that the position is a good match, your application will be submitted to a hiring manager for further evaluation.

Interview

After a hiring manager reviews your application, they will schedule a business interview with you. During this interview, expect to have a more in-depth discussion about your skills and competencies.

You will also learn more about the clients, projects, challenges, chances to grow, team dynamics, and future growth opportunities. This is a great time to ask questions that are important to you about the job responsibilities and tasks.

Technical Interview

Some positions will also require a technical interview with your potential team members. This is your opportunity to showcase your technical skills in a more hands-on way.

These interviews are very specific to the vacancy and the questions will correspond with the skills and responsibilities mentioned in the job description.

For some positions, you will meet with the client, and you may have additional technical assessments.

Feedback + Final Decision

Once the interview process is completed, you will receive a final decision. Our goal is to provide our candidates with the best experience and build strong, long-lasting relationships for future opportunities.

That’s why we highly value feedback about the recruitment process. You can use this as an opportunity to reflect, learn, and foster a strong relationship with your recruiter.

Offer + Onboarding

Congratulations! You have been selected for the role! A recruiter will reach out to discuss the offer with you.

Once this is complete, you will receive an employment contract! Closer to your starting date, expect to receive an email with additional applications/forms that needs to be filled out before your first day.

This includes a background verification, various forms and agreements, and of course details about what to expect on your first day at Cognizant!

Be easy to contact – Make sure your current contact details are included in your CV and are up to date (address, location, phone number, email address).

Interview Essentials

Wow, you have impressed us with your incredible CV! Now, you need to prepare for the next steps: the interview process. At Cognizant, we have many different interview processes, but here are some tips directly from our recruiters that will apply to most interviews.

Before the interview

Do your research – Study the company values and think about how you align with them. It can also be helpful to search for some professional information about your interviewer via LinkedIn or the company website.

Think ahead – Before your interview, prepare a list of any questions you have about the position as well as a few anecdotes about your professional experience.

Dress professionally – You should dress as if you already have the job. It’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed!

Video calls – Have a simple background, good lighting, clear audio, and great internet connection. You don’t want anything to distract from what you’re saying.

Be on time – Demonstrate respect and reliability by being on time to your interview.

During the interview

Self-introduction (3-4 min max) – Introduce yourself, but also speak about why you are there and what attracted you to that job. Do this proactively to show that you are motivated and knowledgeable about the position.

Show enthusiasm – Be your best self! Recruiters and hiring managers love to speak with candidates that are vibrant, excited, and passionate.

Share examples – Be prepared to share 4-5 examples of how your experience qualifies you to take on this new position. This is also an opportunity for you to express your personality and unique strengths. Use the STAR method (situation, task, action, result) for maximum impact.

Act as if the job is already yours – Involve yourself in the interview process, be confident, self aware, and proactive. Ask questions that are relevant to job activities as if you are already preparing to take over the role.

Time management – Be mindful of the interview duration and try your best to answer questions thoroughly but efficiently.

Ask questions – Keep in mind, interviews are not only about recruiters finding the right candidate, it’s also a time where you can also determine if the position is a good fit for you.

Have fun and relax – Don’t stress out! It’s great to be prepared but remember to breathe. Have a great time connecting with your interviewers and showcasing the best parts of yourself. Everyone at Cognizant is so excited to get to know you.

After the interview

Follow up – Ask your recruiter for any updates if it’s been over 1 week since your interview and you haven’t heard back. Sometimes things get busy and asking for updates (in moderation) is not only welcomed but can also emphasize your interest in the position.

Connect on LinkedIn – Stay connected with the Cognizant global page, your recruiter, and anyone else you met during your journey with us.
