Java Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program

Cognizant’s Digital Engineering practice provides cutting-edge software development services to clients. To meet our talent needs in this space, Cognizant partners with Central Piedmont Community College to offer an 8-week pre-apprenticeship ‘no cost’ training program that teaches the foundations of Java programming language to prepare participants for Cognizant’s registered Jr. Full Stack Developer Apprenticeship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

This competitive no-cost training program is for early to mid-career professionals or veterans who are interested in advancing their technology skills by learning to code in Java and upskilling to a Full Stack Developer.  Selection criteria based on work experience, education, essay response and North Carolina Readiness Certificate.


Class size is limited to 25. Registration deadline is January 11, 2021.

An opportunity to interview with Cognizant for a paid Apprenticeship program to prepare for a career as Jr. Full Stack Java Developer contingent (for those who successfully complete the pre-apprenticeship training).
Paid apprenticeship includes 12-weeks of intensive post-hire training. Starting apprentice salary is $25/hr with a progression to $34/hr after 6 months.

           About the Program

Class: The pre-apprentice program includes two online classes (Java Programming Foundations and Java Backend Foundations) taught in a blended format with half the course as self-directed and focused on theory, and half taught online with live coaching.

Schedule: Participants must commit to 60+ hours of self-directed learning and outside homework assignments as well as 30 hours of live online instruction per class. The two classes total 120 hours of training.

Required Resources: A laptop or desktop computer with internet access. Recommend Core i5 processor.

  • Do you have an Associates degree or Military equivalency in technology-related field OR....
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field with 2+ years’ work experience.
  • Are you authorized to work in United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future?
  • Able to pass a background check.
  • Able to commit to an 8-week Java training program (no cost) starting January 29, 2021. Live online sessions will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., plus Saturday.
  • Interest in a 1-year paid Apprenticeship opportunity and long-term employment with Cognizant.

    • Ask to be enrolled in CTP 8065 (This is a 4-hr in person assessment - FERPA Form required to release scores).
