Position Summary

The Product Engineering Lead will drive the end-to-end development and operation of multiple technology applications within a specific domain, leading teams of 50-150 engineering professionals organized as cross functional Agile PODs. This leader will embody the principles of a modern product engineering organisation, focusing on continuous delivery, business engagement, and end-to-end product technology ownership. The role is central to transforming the group into a high-performing product engineering organisation that values engineering excellence and is fully aligned with business and customer priorities.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Champion a product-first mindset, where teams are empowered to build, run, and continuously improve applications that meet customer and business needs.
  • Lead multiple cross functional Agile POD engineering teams, providing technical guidance, coaching, and support to ensure best practices in software engineering, scalability, and reliability.
  • Manage Agile PODs that own their respective product from development through production. Ensure engineering teams have clear accountability for build, deployment, and run responsibilities. Engage proactively and collaboratively with security teams and integrate recommendations and practices in execution.
  • Foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement, with teams striving for elite performance metrics in line with DORA (DevOps Research and Assessment) standards. Build a culture of traceability and observability and engineering accountability.
  • Promote a culture of Experience Led, Modern Applications (Microservices, APIs, Cloud Native, Headless) and Modern Engineering (Full Stack Engg, DevSecOps, Infra as Code, SRE, SDET). Understanding of the operational needs of critical infrastructure services in a DevSecOps/SRE model
  • Work closely with business leaders to prioritise features and improvements, balancing immediate needs with long-term capability growth and strategic objectives. Work across teams to foster an architecture that enables iterative, autonomous development and future scaling.

Mandatory Skills

  • Strong background in Programming Languages (Java/Python/Node.JS), Tools and Frameworks and advocate of clean code practice.
  • Strong background in Software Product Architecture, Development, Testing, and Support of Production Software
  • Involved into design and implementation of secure, scalable, fault tolerant systems in cloud (AWS)
  • Experience with microservices architecture and development and container orchestration (docker, K8 or other containerisation tech)
  • Experience with Operations decision making and incident management.
  • Understanding of Security (Authentication and Authorisation) and Zero trust security.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL DBs
  • Strong experience in DevOps software development/deployment practices (including CI and CD), source control and pipelines as code, to reduce cycle time while retaining quality
  • Understands version control and various branching strategies (what are the issues/benefits following particular branching strategies)
  • A strong work ethic and a can-do attitude, you will use your leadership and communication skills to work with stakeholders at all levels to deliver real business outcomes.
  • Desire to lead from the front and you are up-to-speed with the latest developments in the tech world.
  • Experience in evaluating and recommending innovative technology tools, platforms, and applications to provide the best business solutions.
  • Contributed to development of a technology roadmaps that leverage opportunities from evolving and future technologies.
  • Experience in complying with all relevant processes and standards, including change management principles and processes to ensure deliverables meet or exceed defined quality standards.
  • Identify and drive cost reduction opportunities through simplification, rationalisation and smart application of new technology.
