Job Summary: -

We are looking for a highly experienced professional to lead the development and deployment of advanced AI and machine learning (ML) models. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in ML algorithms, large-scale data processing, and a proven ability to deliver impactful AI solutions. This role involves close collaboration with data scientists, engineers, and cross-functional teams to design and implement cutting-edge AI systems that align with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of sophisticated AI/ML models to address complex business challenges.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to build and deploy scalable AI solutions.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure AI initiatives support strategic goals and customer needs.
  • Analyse large datasets to uncover insights and guide model development.
  • Communicate technical findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in AI and ML.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in data science.
  • Define strategy and direction for the data science function, setting high standards for model quality and innovation.
  • Work with product leaders to integrate AI into product development.
  • Evaluate and establish frameworks, methodologies, and governance for AI initiatives.
  • Lead small to medium-sized teams, directly or indirectly.

Required Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in a senior data science role.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide peers as a subject matter expert.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Linguistics, or related fields.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in AI and ML.
  • Expertise in ML algorithms including deep learning, gradient boosting, and random forests.
  • Experience with large language models (LLMs) and Transformer architectures such as BERT, RoBERTa, and T5.
  • Familiarity with LLMs like ChatGPT, GPT-3.5, OPT, BLOOM, and techniques like reinforcement learning and prompt engineering.
  • Understanding of risks and mitigation strategies when applying LLMs in business contexts.
  • Proficiency in working with large datasets and distributed computing tools (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages.
  • Experience in information retrieval, search, or recommendation systems.

Salary and Other Compensation:

Applications will be accepted until July 17th 2025. The annual salary for this position is between $120kK- 150K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
