Senior Android Mobile Architect

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Android Mobile Architect to design and guide the delivery of secure, reliable, accessible, and high-performing native Android applications. You will define modern architecture patterns, establish reusable engineering practices, and collaborate with product, design, and backend teams to evolve the mobile platform. The ideal candidate brings 5–8 years of Android development experience, including at least two years focused on mobile architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design robust native Android applications using Kotlin, RxJava, Coroutines, and Jetpack Compose.

• Define clean, modular architecture patterns that support separation of concerns, testability, maintainability, and clear boundaries across presentation, domain, and data layers.

• Drive modern asynchronous and reactive development patterns to improve responsiveness, concurrency management, and resource utilization.

• Profile and optimize application startup time, memory usage, network calls, rendering, data access, and caching.

• Implement and review security controls for secure storage, encryption, authentication, and protection against common mobile threats.

• Establish unit, instrumentation, and UI testing strategies and integrate them into continuous integration pipelines.

• Partner with product, design, and backend engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable Android solutions.

• Guide the effective use of Android Jetpack libraries for navigation, lifecycle management, dependency injection, and data persistence.

• Shape Play Store distribution, build variants, feature flags, and phased rollout strategies.

• Embed accessibility best practices into Compose components, layouts, and interactions.

• Lead structured debugging of complex production issues using profiling tools, logs, and crash analytics.

• Document architectural decisions, coding standards, and reusable Android patterns.

Required Qualifications:

• 5–8 years of experience developing Android mobile applications in a global organization.

• At least two years of experience in mobile architecture or technical design leadership.

• Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin, RxJava, Coroutines, and Jetpack Compose.

• Deep understanding of clean architecture, modular application design, and Android Jetpack libraries.

• Experience with Android security, performance optimization, accessibility, and automated testing.

• Experience with Play Store configuration, build variants, feature flags, and phased releases.

• Strong troubleshooting skills using profiling, logging, and crash analytics tools.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across product, design, backend engineering, and delivery teams.

Salary and Other Compensation

The annual salary for this position is between $97K–$114K, depending on the successful candidate’s experience and other qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
