ROLE OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Marketing GEO Strategist to define and own the brand's presence across generative AI platforms. This role combines deep marketing strategy expertise with cutting-edge knowledge of how large language models retrieve, rank, and synthesize brand information. You will develop the overarching GEO content and marketing strategy that drives AI citation, builds topical brand authority, and positions the brand as a trusted source in AI-generated answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and beyond.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and maintain a brand topic authority map, identifying high-value marketing content categories, mapping them to AI answer patterns, and defining strategic content briefs that guide the marketing content team.
• Conduct competitive GEO benchmarking to assess rival brand citations across AI engines, identify marketing share-of-voice gaps, and recommend strategic pivots to capture underserved query territories.
• Define the overall GEO content and marketing strategy, translating brand and business objectives into executable GEO initiatives across the marketing pod.
• Present strategic insights, emerging AI search trends, and forward-looking marketing recommendations to senior brand stakeholders, ensuring the engagement evolves with the generative search landscape.
• Review AI visibility metrics to track brand citation frequency across marketing-relevant queries, identify answer gaps, and surface prioritized content optimization opportunities.
• Develop marketing-specific GEO playbooks that integrate AI optimization into campaign planning, brand storytelling, and content marketing workflows.
• Align GEO strategy with broader marketing objectives including demand generation, brand awareness, customer acquisition, and competitive positioning.
• Advise on how marketing messaging, brand voice, and positioning statements should be adapted to maximize retrieval and citation by AI models.
• Coordinate with paid media and performance marketing teams to identify GEO-driven insights that can inform paid search and social targeting strategies.
• Build frameworks to measure the marketing impact of GEO—connecting AI citation growth to brand equity metrics, traffic attribution, and conversion outcomes.
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
• Generative search mechanics for marketers — deep understanding of how LLMs retrieve and synthesize brand information, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt chaining, and knowledge graph querying.
• AI search platform proficiency — hands-on experience monitoring brand visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, and Copilot using Semrush AI Toolkit.
• Brand entity strategy — understanding how brand entities are defined, disambiguated, and weighted in knowledge graphs, and how to improve brand salience through structured marketing content and external citation signals.
• Topic cluster architecture for marketing — designing hierarchical content ecosystems that build cumulative topical authority, mapping pillar pages to supporting marketing assets.
• Competitive intelligence for marketing — using citation frequency data, AI-answer monitoring tools, and content gap frameworks to benchmark brand performance against key competitors in AI-generated results.
• Strategic marketing roadmap development — translating ambiguous brand and business goals into a sequenced, prioritized GEO marketing execution plan with defined milestones and measurable success criteria.
• Marketing strategy integration — experience connecting GEO to integrated marketing campaigns, editorial calendars, brand guidelines, and cross-channel marketing planning.
