We are currently seeking an experienced VBA Engineer to support the maintenance, enhancement, and modernisation of business-critical user-developed applications within a large enterprise environment.
This role provides the opportunity to work across a diverse application landscape, partnering with business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver reliable solutions, support operational excellence, and drive automation and modernisation initiatives. You will play a key role in maintaining application stability while identifying opportunities to improve scalability, efficiency, and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Support and maintain user-developed applications (UDAs), resolving complex technical issues and ensuring ongoing platform stability.
• Design, build, test, deploy, and support automation and application modernisation solutions using industry best practices.
• Provide technical guidance on application upgrades, scaling, capacity planning, and future-state modernisation strategies.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and implement scalable operating models for application support and enhancement.
• Manage incidents, investigate application issues, coordinate issue resolution, and provide timely communications to business stakeholders.
• Lead incident calls, post-incident reviews, and operational communications to minimise business disruption.
• Design and review technical solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards for security, integration, performance, and scalability.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders and SMEs to gather requirements, validate solutions, and ensure development activities meet business needs.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, discovery workshops, and development planning activities.
• Ensure robust exception handling, failover capabilities, and operational support processes are incorporated into solutions.
• Conduct code reviews, contribute to quality assurance activities, and promote the reuse of scalable components and solutions.
• Build strong partnerships with business stakeholders and develop a deep understanding of business processes and operational requirements.
Skills & Experience
• Strong experience working within large and complex enterprise environments, ideally within financial services or similarly regulated industries.
• Strong experience designing, developing, and supporting solutions using VBA, SQL, SharePoint, and Microsoft Access.
• Experience with database design, application support, and maintenance of business-critical applications.
• Proven experience working in application delivery, production support, or application maintenance functions.
• Strong incident management experience, including stakeholder communications and operational support activities.
• Understanding of automation technologies and opportunities to modernise legacy user-developed applications.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments and collaborating across business and technical teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including engagement with senior business stakeholders.
• Experience working with risk, governance, and quality frameworks within enterprise environments.
• Ability to balance BAU support responsibilities with ongoing automation and modernisation initiatives.
