About the role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, building, and supporting high‑performance backend services that power complex enterprise platforms. You will be a valued member of a delivery team supporting a large financial services client and will work closely with architects, product owners, and engineering peers to deliver scalable, resilient solutions.

In this role, you will:
Design, develop, and maintain backend microservices using Java 17 and Spring Boot with a strong focus on performance and reliability.
Build and support event‑driven services using Kafka for high‑throughput, low‑latency data processing.
Collaborate with front‑end, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver end‑to‑end solutions across the full development lifecycle.
Work with relational and/or NoSQL databases to ensure data integrity, performance, and scalability.
Contribute to cloud‑based deployments and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring high availability and operational stability.
Support test automation and participate in code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
Partner with stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into well‑designed technical solutions.

Work model (Hybrid)

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring at least 3 days per week onsite at the client office in Charlotte, North Carolina. What you need to have to be considered
Minimum 7-10 years of professional experience in software engineering with a strong backend focus.
Advanced proficiency in Java 17 and Spring Boot‑based microservices development.
Hands‑on experience with Kafka and event‑driven architecture patterns.
Strong backend engineering expertise across services, APIs, and databases.
Working knowledge of cloud platforms and modern application deployment practices.
Experience with test automation and quality‑focused development practices.
Ability to work effectively in a client‑facing, on‑site hybrid environment.

These will help you stand out
Experience with OpenShift and/or Kubernetes in enterprise environments.
Exposure to Angular or front‑end integration in full‑stack applications.
Prior experience in investment banking or financial services technology environments.
Familiarity with regulated, high‑availability systems and large‑scale enterprise platforms.

Please note: This role will require an in-person meet and greet at our Cognizant offices or client location.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $68,422 to $114,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
