Job Summary
Serve as an Mainframe Engineer specializing in mainframe based analytics and transaction processing solutions for enterprise clients applying deep expertise in Cobol DB2 Host/Mainframe JCL zOS Endevor ISPF TSO SAS
to design robust hybrid model systems that enhance stability performance and data driven decision making while aligning with business goals and social impact initiatives through reliable digital services.
Responsibilities
- Design mainframe solution architectures that efficiently integrate TSO ISPF JCL Mainframe SAS Host Analytics DB2 and Cobol components to support highly reliable business critical workloads and reporting needs in a hybrid work environment.
- Develop scalable batch and online processing strategies using JCL and Cobol that optimize resource utilization shorten processing windows and increase throughput for enterprise operations that impact customers and communities.
- Implement robust data models and physical database structures in DB2 that improve query performance data integrity and auditability for analytical and transactional use cases across multiple business domains.
- Create and refine Mainframe SAS and Host Analytics flows that transform complex raw data into accurate timely and trusted insights for decision makers across the organization.
- Review and optimize existing Cobol programs JCL streams and DB2 access patterns to reduce failures minimize incident rates and enhance overall platform resilience for critical services.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams spanning business analysts testers infrastructure specialists and data consumers to translate functional requirements into detailed mainframe design specifications.
- Establish coding configuration and documentation standards for TSO ISPF based development activities that ensure maintainability traceability and consistent quality across distributed project teams.
- Guide the adoption of reusable patterns for error handling logging and performance monitoring in Cobol DB2 and JCL that simplify support and reduce mean time to recovery during production incidents.
- Coordinate with release and environment management stakeholders to define deployment approaches for mainframe changes that reduce risk avoid downtime and align with enterprise change management practices.
- Assess technical risks related to capacity performance and data quality in mainframe solutions and propose targeted mitigation plans that protect business continuity and regulatory compliance.
- Document end to end solution designs job flows data lineage and operational procedures in clear and accessible formats that support effective knowledge sharing across teams working in hybrid mode.
- Support production issues by performing structured root cause analysis on mainframe components and by implementing preventive improvements that enhance platform stability and customer trust.
- Engage with security compliance and governance partners to ensure that mainframe architectures and data flows meet enterprise standards and contribute to safe and responsible use of data for society.
Qualifications
- Combine eight to ten years of progressive experience in mainframe engineering with practical solution design exposure that enables ownership of complex TSO ISPF JCL DB2 Cobol and analytics landscapes.
- Demonstrate strong applied expertise in TSO ISPF for code development debugging dataset management and job control activities in large scale enterprise environments.
- Exhibit advanced proficiency in JCL design and troubleshooting including utilities condition handling scheduling integration and performance tuning for high volume workloads.
- Apply hands on experience with Mainframe SAS and Host Analytics to build curated data sets analytic jobs and reporting assets that support evidence based business decisions.
- Show proven ability in DB2 database design SQL optimization and access path analysis that results in efficient and secure data retrieval for both batch and online processing.
- Utilize deep Cobol programming experience to construct structured modular and maintainable code that supports complex business rules and long term system evolution.
- Operate effectively in hybrid work arrangements by using collaboration tools documentation practices and communication habits that keep distributed stakeholders aligned on architecture decisions.
- Engage with agile or iterative delivery approaches by refining technical tasks estimating effort and delivering incremental architecture and design artifacts that fit sprint objectives.
- Display clear written and verbal communication skills that support effective discussions with technical and non technical partners about design options trade offs and impacts on users and society.
