Cognizant is seeking a highly experienced Squad Lead to serve as the delivery anchor of a client-facing POD. This is a senior leadership role that sits above the Technical Lead in the POD structure, combining deep technical credibility with strong Agile delivery discipline, client management expertise, and people leadership. You will own the end-to-end health of the squad — from sprint execution and engineering quality to team performance, customer relationships, and executive-level status reporting.
You are the person the client calls when something needs to be resolved, not just reported. You will manage demanding stakeholders with professionalism and composure, proactively surface risks and decisions before they become escalations, and hold your team to a high standard of delivery and accountability. Fluent, professional English — written and spoken — is a firm requirement for this role.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering and technical delivery, including hands-on Java development in enterprise-scale environments.
• Demonstrated track record leading PODs or delivery squads of 4–10 engineers end-to-end through multiple release cycles.
• Deep, applied Agile/Scrum expertise — not just familiarity, but the ability to coach, enforce, and elevate Scrum practices at the squad level.
• Proven experience managing difficult, high-expectation client stakeholders — ability to hold firm under pressure, communicate bad news effectively, and maintain the relationship.
• Strong command of Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, Jenkins CI/CD, and Kubernetes at a level sufficient to assess and challenge technical decisions.
• Metrics-driven delivery mindset — must be able to define, track, and report KPIs that accurately reflect squad health and delivery progress.
• Fluent written and spoken English — must independently own client communication, produce polished written status and escalation reports, and lead meetings without support.
• Exceptional escalation judgment: knows what to escalate, when, to whom, and how — with a proposed resolution always included.
• Strong people leadership skills — direct, constructive, and accountable in managing both high performers and underperformers.
