About the Role

As a Compute & Virtualization SME, you will play a critical role in maintaining and optimizing enterprise virtualization platforms across VMware and Microsoft ecosystems. You will be responsible for diagnosing complex infrastructure issues, ensuring high availability, and maintaining performance across virtualized environments.

Working within Cognizant’s infrastructure and cloud services teams, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver stable, scalable, and resilient virtualization platforms that support business-critical workloads.


In This Role, You Will:

  • Resolve host and cluster failures across VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V environments
  • Troubleshoot and fix HA and DRS issues, including failed failovers and VM placement problems
  • Diagnose CPU, memory, and storage performance bottlenecks affecting virtual machines
  • Roll back or remediate hypervisor patches when incidents or instability occur
  • Investigate and resolve datastore connectivity issues, including APD, PDL, and SCSI errors
  • Monitor and enforce capacity limits and resource allocation across clusters and resource pools
  • Define and implement minimal operations agreements for degraded or failure scenarios
  • Ensure platform stability, resilience, and adherence to operational best practices
  • Collaborate with storage, network, and cloud teams to resolve cross-domain infrastructure issues

What You Need to Have to Be Considered

  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise virtualization environments
  • Strong expertise in VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter) including HA, DRS, vMotion, and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Hyper-V, including failover clustering, Live Migration, and SCVMM
  • Proficiency with performance monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as esxtop, vRealize/Aria Operations, and Windows Perfmon
  • Solid understanding of storage technologies including VMFS, NFS, iSCSI, and Hyper-V Cluster Shared Volumes (CSV)
  • Experience with PowerCLI and/or PowerShell scripting for automation and operational efficiency
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to resolve complex infrastructure issues under pressure
  • Understanding of enterprise infrastructure dependencies across compute, storage, and networking

  • Experience working in large-scale, multi-cluster enterprise environments
  • Exposure to hybrid cloud or cloud-integrated virtualization platforms
  • Familiarity with automation and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Experience in incident management and root cause analysis (RCA) in production environments
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and service management frameworks
