Lead API Support Engineer
About the role
As a Lead API Support Engineer, you will make an impact by designing and delivering secure, scalable API and integration solutions using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Apigee technologies. You will be a valued member of the architecture and engineering team, working collaboratively with product, engineering, operations, and client stakeholders to enable enterprise-scale digital integration initiatives.
In this role, you will:
· Design and implement scalable API architectures using Google Cloud Platform and Apigee to support enterprise integrations and high-volume digital channels.
· Lead the development of secure, reusable, and reliable REST APIs while establishing API governance and lifecycle management best practices.
· Architect and support Apigee Edge, Apigee X, and Apigee Hybrid environments, including gateway configuration, security policies, traffic management, and monitoring.
· Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into integration solutions and provide technical leadership through architecture reviews and implementation guidance.
· Drive continuous improvement by evaluating new GCP and Apigee capabilities, optimizing platform performance, and enhancing developer experience through portal and self-service solutions.

What you need to have to be considered
· Extensive hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform services, including networking, security, compute, and observability capabilities.
· Deep expertise with Apigee Edge, Apigee X, and Apigee Hybrid, including deployment, configuration, policy development, and operational support.
· Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise REST APIs using industry-standard practices for security, documentation, testing, and versioning.
· Strong understanding of API security principles, including authentication, authorization, rate limiting, mutual TLS, token management, and data protection.
· Experience with integration architecture, microservices, event-driven systems, and modern DevOps practices including CI/CD automation and environment promotion.
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
· Strong problem-solving skills and experience troubleshooting complex integration and API platform issues.
· Ability to work effectively across distributed teams and time zones in a hybrid work environment.
These will help you stand out
· Google Professional Cloud Architect certification.
· Apigee API Engineer certification.
· Experience implementing and managing Apigee Developer Portals.
· Background in the cards and payments domain, including regulatory and compliance considerations.
· Experience creating architecture roadmaps, reference architectures, and enterprise integration standards.

Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until August 14, 2025.
The annual salary for this position is between $112,000- $132,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
