About the role
Cognizant is seeking a SAP S/4HANA Finance & Controlling Functional Architect to lead the design and implementation of enterprise-scale finance transformation initiatives. This role requires deep expertise in S/4HANA Finance and Controlling, including New GL, Accounts Receivable, Product Costing, Profit Center Accounting, and cross-functional integrations with Sales & Distribution (SD) and Materials Management (MM). The ideal candidate will leverage both SAP best practices and emerging Generative AI capabilities to optimize financial processes, improve reporting, and drive operational excellence across a global organization.
In this role you will
- Design and architect end-to-end SAP S/4HANA Finance and Controlling solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
- Analyze complex business requirements across General Ledger, Controlling, Accounts Receivable, Profit Center Accounting, and Product Costing.
- Configure and optimize S/4HANA Controlling processes, including Cost Center Accounting, Internal Orders, and Profitability Analysis (CO-PA).
- Implement and enhance S/4HANA New GL functionalities such as Document Splitting, Parallel Ledgers, and Real-Time Integration.
- Drive integration between SAP Finance and Sales & Distribution (SD) to support seamless Order-to-Cash processes and revenue recognition.
- Drive integration between SAP Finance and Materials Management (MM) to enable Procure-to-Pay automation, inventory valuation, and accurate financial postings.
- Optimize Accounts Receivable functions including Dunning, Credit Management, Collections, and Dispute Management.
- Design and maintain Profit Center Accounting structures to support financial transparency and segment-level performance reporting.
- Configure Product Costing processes including cost estimates, cost component structures, variance analysis, and profitability tracking.
- Utilize Generative AI technologies to automate documentation, test case creation, configuration recommendations, and financial analytics.
- Facilitate workshops, fit-gap assessments, solution validation sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
- Develop detailed functional specifications, configuration documents, testing artifacts, and end-user documentation.
- Support SIT, UAT, and production deployment activities while ensuring solution quality and compliance.
- Provide hypercare support, troubleshoot complex finance integration issues, and drive continuous process improvements.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, governance standards, regulatory requirements, and SAP best practices.

What you need to have to be considered
- Bachelor's degree in information technology, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field.
- 10+ years of SAP Finance and Controlling consulting or solution architecture experience.
- Strong expertise in SAP S/4HANA Finance and Controlling modules, including:
- Controlling (CO)
- New General Ledger (New GL)
- Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Profit Center Accounting (PCA)
- Product Costing (PC)
- Extensive experience integrating SAP Finance with Sales & Distribution (SD) and Materials Management (MM).
- Proven experience leading large-scale SAP S/4HANA implementation or transformation programs.
- Strong understanding of financial operations including invoicing, cash application, collections, revenue recognition, and order management.
- Experience conducting requirements gathering, fit-gap analysis, workshop facilitation, and solution blueprinting.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with globally distributed and cross-functional teams.

- SAP S/4HANA implementation experience within global enterprise environments.
- Experience designing scalable, cloud-ready, and hybrid enterprise architectures.
- Strong expertise in Product Costing, Profitability Analysis (CO-PA), and Financial Planning processes.
- Hands-on experience applying Generative AI technologies for documentation automation, analytics, solution recommendations, or software lifecycle acceleration.
- Knowledge of finance transformation, process optimization, and compliance-driven reporting frameworks.
- Experience mentoring project teams and serving as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders.
Certifications Required
- SAP Certified Application Professional – Financials in SAP S/4HANA
- SAP S/4HANA Finance Certification (preferred)
- Generative AI, Machine Learning, or AI-related certification from a recognized institution (preferred)
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $83,600 - $129,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
