The EMG Hardware team supports wearable hardware development from prototyping through product validation. As a Mechanical Lab Technician you will perform handson mechanical testing support failure analysis and maintain lab equipment. Youll work closely with engineers and the lab manager to evaluate hardware durability reliability and structural integrity.
Responsibilities
Set up and execute mechanical load tests tensile compression fatigue peel shear using Instron load frames and custom fixtures
Perform wear abrasion drop and cyclic life testing on components and subassemblies
Conduct environmental stress testing using temperature and humidity chambers
Develop document and maintain mechanical test procedures and work instructions
Support fabrication of custom test fixtures using drill press arbor press heat press and hand tools
Perform dimensional measurements using CMM calipers micrometers and height gauges
Operate digital microscopes and optical inspection tools for surface and crosssection analysis
Assist with mechanical failure analysis crosssectioning visual inspection and dimensional characterization
Collect organize and report test data with clear documentation of results and findings
Maintain equipment calibration schedules and lab consumables inventory
Follow all EHS safety protocols and maintain a clean organized lab environment
Requirements
2plus years of handson mechanical testing experience in a lab or manufacturing environment
Experience operating mechanical load frames Instron or equivalent
Familiarity with reliability and environmental stress testing methods
Ability to read and follow detailed test procedures precisely
Experience with dimensional measurement and metrology tools
Strong documentation and report writing skills
Good communication and teamwork skills
Attention to detail and logical troubleshooting mindset
Comfortable working in a fastpaced environment
Preferred Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Materials Science Manufacturing Engineering or related field may substitute for experience
Experience with Instron Bluehill software
Familiarity with reliability standards IPC JEDEC or consumer electronics durability specs
Experience supporting failure analysis or root cause investigations
Exposure to wearable devices or consumer electronics hardware
Basic CAD proficiency SolidWorks Fusion 360 for fixture review
Experience with 3D printing or rapid prototyping
