Job summary

Sr Architect responsible for designing resilient IMS administration solutions in a hybrid work model focusing on application database management performance tuning and secure data operations. The role involves collaborating with cross functional teams to optimize IMS environments ensure high availability and align data architecture with business objectives while maintaining compliance and reliability across day shift operations.


Responsibilities

  • Design comprehensive IMS administration strategies that optimize application database performance reliability and scalability within enterprise environments and support consistent day shift operations
  • Architect robust IMS data models and schemas that align with business processes ensuring accurate data representation efficient access patterns and long term maintainability across critical applications
  • Oversee configuration of IMS subsystems including databases and related resources ensuring appropriate allocation of storage buffers and parameters to meet performance and availability targets
  • Implement rigorous monitoring for IMS environments using organization tools to detect emerging performance issues capacity risks and operational anomalies before they impact business services
  • Develop and refine IMS performance tuning practices that address query optimization index design and resource utilization resulting in faster transaction processing and improved user experience
  • Collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams to integrate IMS solutions with middleware and front end systems ensuring seamless data flow and stable application behavior
  • Provide structured incident analysis and root cause identification for IMS related outages or degradations documenting remediation steps and preventing recurrence through continuous improvement activities
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation for IMS configurations standards and operational procedures to enable consistent administration practices and effective knowledge sharing across teams
  • Coordinate controlled changes in IMS environments such as upgrades patches and parameter adjustments ensuring thorough impact analysis testing and stable production rollout
  • Support data integrity and recovery mechanisms by defining backup schedules recovery procedures and validation checks that safeguard critical information and minimize potential downtime
  • Engage in capacity planning for IMS databases by forecasting data growth assessing hardware resource needs and recommending scaling strategies that align with projected business demands
  • Contribute to security and compliance efforts by applying organizational policies to IMS configurations enforcing appropriate access controls and supporting audit requirements for regulated data
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that modernize IMS administration practices through automation standardized workflows and best practices that enhance efficiency and reduce operational risk

  • Qualifications

  • Possess strong hands on experience in IMS administration with focus on application database tasks including configuration maintenance and performance management for complex environments
  • Demonstrate practical understanding of IMS data modeling and schema design principles that support transactional workloads reporting needs and integration with enterprise applications
  • Apply solid knowledge of performance tuning techniques for IMS databases including index optimization resource configuration and workload analysis to achieve targeted service levels
  • Utilize experience with backup and recovery methods in IMS to design resilient strategies that protect data support restoration objectives and maintain operational continuity
  • Exhibit familiarity with enterprise monitoring and incident management tools that track IMS health generate alerts and guide timely troubleshooting responses during day shifts
  • Show ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional technology teams using clear communication and structured documentation to deliver reliable IMS solutions in a hybrid work model
  • Display awareness of data security and compliance expectations in enterprise settings and incorporate appropriate controls into IMS administration practices for safer information handling

  • Certifications Required

    Preferred certifications include IBM Certified Database Administrator for IMS and related enterprise database credentials relevant to mainframe data management.
