200 trainings and counting: Meet super learner Debashish

Welcome back to our super learners series, where we celebrate associates who turn their curiosity into career growth. Today, we’re spotlighting Debashish Mishra, an associate from our Enterprise Platform Services domain. In just 2.5 years, he’s completed 44 certifications, more than 200 trainings and earned two promotions—a testament to what sustained ambition and discipline can achieve.

Hi Debashish, tell us how your journey at Cognizant began. 

I joined Cognizant in July 2023 as a Programmer Analyst Trainee (PAT) after finishing my Master of Technology in Signal Processing. Cognizant became the place where I put my academic knowledge to work. Over the last 2.5 years, I’ve been promoted from PAT to the Associate level, and upskilling has played a big role in my growth.

Tell us about the trainings you’ve taken and what motivates you. 

Most of my certifications and trainings have been around digital transformation, AI, machine learning, cloud technologies and infrastructure modernization.

During my university days, someone told me, “A thief can steal everything from you but not your knowledge.” That stayed with me. We also live in a dynamic world where skills quickly become outdated—and the only way to stay future-ready is by upskilling. 

How do you take time out of your day for learning?

Discipline. I start my day early at 5:30 a.m. and play cricket with friends before heading home by 7a.m. to take care of personal commitments. By 11 a.m., I’m ready to dive into work, where I continue learning through hands-on project experience. After work, I make time for my family and dedicate an hour or two to studying. While the journey can be challenging at times, I know my future self will thank me for the consistency and growth.

How do these trainings help you in your career?

Every training experience has expanded my skills and broadened my perspective. Seeing my dedication to growth, my manager started entrusting me with greater responsibilities, such as plant configuration, which ultimately led to my promotion.  Above all, I feel confident, prepared and ready for whatever comes next.

What message would you like to share with the reader? 

Many people tend to get comfortable after a few years of experience. But with AI re-shaping industries and new technologies emerging at a rapid pace, upskilling is a must. I’d suggest making the most of our company’s learning ecosystem. Keep learning, because the moment you stop, the world will move ahead.
