About the Role
As a Lead Developer, you will make an impact by designing and implementing secure, scalable API solutions using Apigee, Java, and microservices technologies for a global enterprise client. You will be a valued member of the Engineering team and work collaboratively with product managers, business stakeholders, architects, DevOps teams, security partners, and fellow developers to deliver high-quality API and integration solutions that support critical digital business capabilities.
In This Role, You Will
Lead the design, development, and deployment of Apigee-based APIs and Java microservices that support enterprise integration initiatives.
Collaborate with business and technology teams to translate requirements into secure, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions.
Drive API governance, security, performance optimization, and observability best practices across the application landscape.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues while implementing preventive improvements to enhance platform reliability and resilience.
Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, ON, Canada. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
8+ years of experience in Java application development within enterprise environments.
Hands-on expertise with Apigee including API proxy development, policy configuration, and API product management.
Strong experience designing and building RESTful APIs and Java-based microservices.
Solid understanding of microservices architecture and integration patterns.
Experience with CI/CD tools and version control systems supporting automated application delivery.
Knowledge of API security practices, including authentication, authorization, token-based access, and service throttling.
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration concepts supporting scalable application deployments.
Proven troubleshooting and performance optimization experience across APIs, applications, and distributed systems.
Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

Experience leading technical reviews and providing guidance to development teams.
Strong understanding of API governance and enterprise integration best practices.
Experience implementing observability and monitoring strategies for APIs and microservices.
Ability to identify opportunities to reduce technical debt and simplify complex architectures.
Experience working in large-scale enterprise environments supporting critical customer-facing applications.
Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $115,500 - $135,500, depending on experience and qualifications.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to plan terms.
