About the role
As an Oracle Database & GoldenGate Architect, you will make an impact by leading the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise database platforms and replication solutions that support business-critical applications. You will be responsible for architecting highly available, scalable, and secure Oracle database environments while driving data integration, migration, disaster recovery, and modernization initiatives across hybrid infrastructure landscapes. You will be a valued member of the Cloud Infrastructure and Security team working collaboratively with application, infrastructure, and platform teams.
In this role, you will
- Design and implement enterprise database architectures leveraging Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, and Oracle GoldenGate.
- Architect and support real-time and near real-time data replication solutions using Oracle GoldenGate across homogeneous and heterogeneous environments.
- Configure, administer, and optimize GoldenGate components, including Extract, Data Pump, Replicat, trail files, and checkpoint management.
- Design highly available and disaster recovery solutions utilizing Oracle RAC and Data Guard technologies.
- Lead database migration, upgrade, refresh, consolidation, and replication projects while minimizing business disruption and downtime.
- Develop backup, recovery, failover, and disaster recovery strategies to meet recovery time and recovery point objectives.
- Monitor and optimize database performance using AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Tuning Advisor, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and other performance analysis tools.
- Troubleshoot complex Oracle database and GoldenGate issues, including replication lag, trail file management, checkpoint recovery, performance bottlenecks, and data synchronization challenges.
- Perform capacity planning, database health assessments, and performance forecasting for enterprise workloads.
- Implement database security best practices, hardening standards, access controls, and audit compliance requirements.
- Develop automation solutions using Shell and Python scripting to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes.
- Create architecture documentation, operational procedures, deployment standards, and technical runbooks.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, cloud, and business stakeholders to support strategic data initiatives and enterprise transformation programs.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and architectural guidance to database administration and engineering teams.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Atlanta, GA. What you need to have to be considered
- 10+ years of experience administering and architecting enterprise Oracle database environments.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience with Oracle GoldenGate replication technologies.
- Deep expertise with Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, and high availability/disaster recovery architectures.
- Strong experience configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting GoldenGate components including Extract, Data Pump, Replicat, trail files, checkpoint management, and replication synchronization issues.
- Proven experience delivering database migrations, upgrades, refreshes, consolidation, and replication projects with minimal downtime.
- Advanced performance tuning expertise using AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Tuning Advisor, OEM, and SQL optimization techniques.
- Hands-on experience with Linux/Unix administration and Shell or Python scripting for automation.
- Strong understanding of database security, access management, auditing, and compliance requirements.
- Experience developing architecture standards, technical documentation, operational frameworks, and implementation roadmaps.
- Strong stakeholder management, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Experience leading database modernization, transformation, or architecture initiatives.
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) - Oracle Database Administrator.

- Strong understanding of data integration, replication, and modernization strategies.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments with strict compliance and audit requirements.
- Oracle GoldenGate Specialist, Oracle Certified Master (OCM), Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Database, or other industry-recognized database, cloud, and infrastructure certifications.
