About the role
As a Solution Architect - Front-End Modernization, you will make an impact by leading the architecture, governance, and modernization of a large-scale enterprise front-end transformation program. You will be a valued member of the delivery team supporting The Hartford and will work collaboratively with UI architects, Java/API architects, modernization teams, GenAI engineering teams, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, high-performing Angular applications.
In this role, you will:
- Define and own the target-state Angular architecture across approximately 50 enterprise applications, ensuring consistency in component design, state management, routing, and micro-frontend adoption.
- Establish and govern shared UI frameworks, reusable component libraries, design systems, accessibility standards, and performance best practices.
- Partner with modernization and reverse-engineering teams to ensure legacy application behavior, validations, workflows, and navigation patterns are accurately reflected in modern Angular experiences.
- Collaborate with Java and API architects to define front-end and back-end integration standards, REST service consumption patterns, caching strategies, and error-handling frameworks.
- Provide architectural oversight for AI-assisted development initiatives, including defining guardrails, quality standards, review processes, and acceptance criteria for AI-generated code.
- Lead architecture reviews, mentor development teams, resolve complex technical challenges, and drive delivery excellence throughout the modernization program.

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a client office in Hartford, Connecticut and 2 days remote. What you need to have to be considered
- 10+ years of experience in front-end engineering, application architecture, or UI modernization initiatives.
- Strong expertise in Angular, including component architecture, RxJS, NgRx/state management, routing, and micro-frontend architectures.
- Advanced proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and modern front-end development practices.
- Experience building and governing enterprise-scale design systems, reusable component libraries, theming frameworks, and UI standards.
- Strong understanding of REST API integration, client-side performance optimization, accessibility standards (WCAG), and automated UI testing frameworks.
- Experience with modern development tools including Git, Webpack, and front-end build automation technologies.
- Hands-on experience leading architecture decisions across multiple concurrent applications and distributed development teams.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Human-Computer Interaction, Design, or a related field.

- Experience modernizing legacy applications, including exposure to mainframe technologies such as CICS, IMS, Telon, or 3270-based systems.
- Insurance industry or highly regulated industry experience.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted software development platforms and large language model-based code generation tools such as Claude.
- Experience reviewing and governing AI-generated code in enterprise environments.
- AWS cloud certifications, Angular certifications, or other relevant architecture credentials.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Compensation
The annual salary for this position is $88,200 to $139,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans. The salary and other compensation information is accurate as of the date of this posting and may change subject to applicable law.
