Job Summary

Agentic Software Engineer role in a global organization focusing on complex mainframe solutions using Cobol DB2 and core utilities for cards and payments processing. The role requires six to ten years of experience in hybrid work model delivering robust transactional capabilities and ensuring reliable day time support for business critical applications.


Responsibilities

  • Design develop and optimize mainframe Cobol programs and DB2 database components that power high volume transactional applications for cards and payments processing in alignment with business objectives and technology standards.
  • Analyze existing mainframe utilities and batch processes to identify performance bottlenecks and implement improvements that enhance throughput stability and resource efficiency for mission critical systems.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including business analysts architects and testers to translate complex functional requirements into reliable mainframe solutions that deliver measurable value and operational resilience.
  • Review refactor and modernize legacy Cobol and DB2 code to improve maintainability readability and alignment with current engineering practices while preserving functional integrity and compliance needs.
  • Implement robust error handling logging and recovery strategies within mainframe applications to minimize production incidents and support rapid diagnosis and resolution when issues arise.
  • Conduct detailed impact analysis and technical assessments for changes in cards and payments functionality to ensure that new features integrate smoothly with existing systems and data flows.
  • Perform structured unit testing integration testing and regression testing on mainframe components using systematic test data design to ensure functional accuracy and non functional reliability.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for Cobol programs DB2 schemas and job control flows that supports knowledge sharing onboarding and regulatory or audit requirements.
  • Coordinate with production support teams during day shift to investigate incidents provide root cause analysis and implement sustainable fixes that reduce repeat issues and improve platform stability.
  • Apply secure coding practices and data protection standards in all mainframe development activities to safeguard customer information and uphold organizational trust in digital payment services.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by proposing enhancements to mainframe utilities development processes and monitoring capabilities that improve delivery speed and system observability.
  • Mentor junior engineers on mainframe concepts Cobol and DB2 techniques and structured problem solving approaches that foster a culture of craftsmanship and collective ownership in the team.
  • Engage in hybrid work collaboration by effectively using remote and onsite communication channels to ensure alignment transparency and timely delivery of mainframe solutions supporting global operations.


Qualifications

  • Possess professional experience of six to ten years in hands on mainframe engineering work with strong proficiency in Cobol programming and practical use of standard mainframe utilities for production applications.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills in designing and tuning DB2 database structures queries and access paths that support high volume financial transaction processing with predictable performance.
  • Show proven ability to work on cards and payments domain solutions including authorization clearing or settlement flows and accurately interpret business rules in technical implementations.
  • Exhibit strong analytical and debugging capabilities for complex mainframe environments using trace tools logs and structured diagnostics to resolve defects and performance incidents efficiently.
  • Display effective communication and collaboration skills that enable clear articulation of technical options trade offs and recommendations to partners in technology and business functions.
  • Show capability to operate in hybrid work arrangements with disciplined self management reliable availability during day shift and consistent alignment with distributed teams and stakeholders.
  • Value adherence to organizational quality standards and secure engineering practices while maintaining focus on delivering practical solutions that enhance customer experience and societal trust in digital payments.
