Job Summary

This hybrid day shift role seeks an experienced software developer with strong expertise in mainframe utilities DB2 and Cobol to design enhance and maintain enterprise grade applications for a global organization contributing to reliable transaction processing and operational excellence while collaborating with cross functional teams and supporting continuous improvement for business critical systems.


Responsibilities

  • Develop robust mainframe based software components using Cobol DB2 and utilities to support high volume business transactions and ensure consistent system reliability for global operations.
  • Analyze complex functional requirements from business stakeholders and translate them into efficient technical designs that optimize mainframe resource usage and improve application performance.
  • Enhance and refactor existing Cobol programs and DB2 database structures to reduce technical debt improve maintainability and support evolving enterprise standards and compliance needs.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including business analysts testers and infrastructure specialists to deliver integrated solutions that align with cards and payments processing objectives.
  • Create and execute unit and integration test cases for mainframe applications to validate functionality ensure data integrity and minimize defects in production environments.
  • Monitor and tune DB2 queries and database configurations to improve response times reduce resource contention and support scalable transaction workloads.
  • Investigate and resolve production incidents on mainframe applications by performing root cause analysis and implementing sustainable corrective actions that reduce recurrence.
  • Document application logic data flows and configuration details in a clear manner to support knowledge sharing onboarding and long term maintainability of critical systems.
  • Coordinate with quality assurance teams to support test cycle execution by providing test data clarifying requirements and addressing defects in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to modernization initiatives by assessing existing mainframe modules and recommending incremental improvements that enhance interoperability and readiness for future platforms.
  • Apply secure coding practices and adhere to organizational policies to protect sensitive financial information and support compliance with regulatory expectations.
  • Communicate progress risks and dependencies to project stakeholders in a concise manner to support predictable delivery and informed decision making within the hybrid work model.
  • Participate in code reviews and standards discussions to encourage consistent development practices and improve overall code quality across mainframe applications.


Qualifications

  • Possess between six and ten years of professional experience in software development with a strong focus on enterprise mainframe application design and implementation.
  • Demonstrate extensive hands on proficiency in Cobol programming including structured coding techniques file handling and batch as well as online transaction processing on mainframe platforms.
  • Show advanced experience using mainframe utilities for job control file management performance monitoring and deployment activities in large scale environments.
  • Display strong practical knowledge of DB2 on mainframe systems including schema design query optimization stored procedures and data integrity management.
  • Bring familiarity with cards and payments domain concepts such as authorization clearing settlement and transaction reconciliation to better understand business flows and data usage.
  • Exhibit solid skills in analyzing legacy code bases identifying optimization opportunities and implementing changes that improve reliability and maintainability without disrupting service.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration abilities to work with distributed teams in a hybrid model and coordinate deliveries across multiple stakeholders.
