About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Patient Advocate Team Lead to guide and support a team of advocates while ensuring uninsured patients receive access to financial assistance and healthcare coverage. This role serves as a key liaison among patients, hospital partners, and government agencies and requires strong leadership, communication, and eligibility expertise. The Team Lead will collaborate on-site with the team as they support and assist patients.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, motivate, mentor, and inspire team members to reach their full potential.

  • Foster collaboration, communication, and positive team culture.

  • Ensure departmental goals, productivity targets, and quality standards are met.

  • Monitor schedules and staffing to maintain adequate coverage.

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and support on escalated issues.

  • Reinforce company values, mission, and expectations.

  • Assist patients with eligibility applications and required documentation.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in all systems.

  • Collaborate with hospital staff, government agencies, and internal partners.

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, EMTALA, and all privacy regulations.

  • Manage work queues and ensure proper staffing coverage.

  • Identify opportunities for process and workflow improvements.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is an onsite position requiring 5 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Atlanta, GA.

What you need to have to be considered

  • High School or GED required.

  • 2+ years of experience in Medicaid eligibility, hospital financial counseling, enrollment operations, or related programs.

  • 2+ years of supervisory or team lead experience.

  • Strong knowledge of Federal and State Medicaid policies and eligibility (including SOC, asset testing, redeterminations, institutional deeming, and dual eligibility pathways).

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to evolving tools and program requirements.

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze information, troubleshoot issues, and provide solutions.

  • Proficient in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Proven success in customer service and managing emotional or complex situations.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Must be willing and able to travel locally.

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in public health, health administration, public policy, or related field

  • Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

  • Experience collaborating with government agencies and hospital partners.

Salary and Other Compensation: The hourly salary for this position is between $25.00 - $30.00 depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
