About the role
As a Senior Java developer, you will make an impact by leading the design and delivery of secure, scalable microservices and intelligent automation solutions that support critical asset and wealth management platforms. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with product owners, architects, and cross-functional stakeholders to drive high-quality software delivery.

In this role, you will:
- Lead and mentor a cross-functional engineering team delivering microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and Python
- Drive end-to-end software delivery, from design through deployment, ensuring quality, scalability, and reliability
- Define architecture and best practices for REST/SOAP services and distributed systems
- Guide adoption of prompt engineering techniques to enhance automation and decision-support capabilities
- Oversee database design and optimization using PL/SQL with Oracle and MySQL
Work model

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Chicago, Illinois. What you need to have to be considered
- Proven experience leading engineering teams delivering enterprise applications (9+ years overall experience)
- Strong expertise in Java, J2EE, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing REST and SOAP APIs
- Advanced knowledge of relational databases (Oracle/MySQL) and strong PL/SQL skills
- Experience working in Linux environments, including deployment and production support
These will help you stand out
- Experience with prompt engineering or AI-driven automation using Python or similar tools
- Exposure to asset and wealth management domain (portfolios, trading, regulatory workflows)
- Experience integrating microservices with enterprise platforms (messaging, authentication, monitoring)
- Background in CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and secure development practices
- Experience working in hybrid or distributed team environments
Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until June 5th, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $90,000 - $117,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
