Senior AI Agent Engineer – ServiceNow
About the role
As a Senior AI Agent Engineer – ServiceNow, you will make an impact by building and improving an agentic ServiceNow implementation system that helps translate user stories into configuration changes and deploy them to customer sandbox environments. You will be a valued member of the ServiceNow technology team and work collaboratively with architects, technical consultants, product teams, and engineering partners to make the agent faster, smarter, more reliable, and production-ready.
In this role, you will:
- Enhance agent behavior, prompt architecture, verification gates, test generation, and evaluation frameworks.
- Optimize token usage, latency, and conversational quality to improve the technical consultant experience.
- Extend ServiceNow platform integrations across Flow Designer, Agent Teams, Data Policies, REST Message builders, rollback automation, and post-deployment validation.
- Build and enhance Python and TypeScript Model Context Protocol servers as agent capabilities expand.
- Improve observability, reliability, alerting, recovery workflows, and offline testing using tools such as Langfuse and OpenTelemetry.
- Design knowledge and memory architecture using Cosmos DB, vector stores, graph databases, and retrieval-augmented generation patterns.
- Partner with engineering and ServiceNow teams to production-harden multi-agent systems and support scalable customer implementations.

What you need to have to be considered
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years building or operating large language model agent systems in production.
- Hands-on experience with agent orchestration frameworks such as Claude Agent SDK, LangGraph, AutoGen, LlamaIndex Agents, or similar tools.
- Experience building or extending Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, including tool schema registration and transport debugging.
- Strong understanding of multi-agent architecture, tool routing, shared session state, context-window management, and turn-budget optimization.
- Experience with A2A Protocol, JSON-RPC 2.0 message contracts, and asynchronous callback patterns.
- Strong Python experience, including FastAPI, asyncio, async generators, background tasks, and structured concurrency.
- Hands-on ServiceNow platform experience, including scoped apps, update sets, Table API, Scripted REST APIs, and field inheritance.
- Experience with observability, token-cost tracking, latency analysis, and production reliability for AI or agent-based systems.
- Experience with knowledge stores, vector search, graph databases, and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines.
- Working knowledge of Docker, container health checks, volume mounts, and multi-process container patterns.
These will help you stand out
- Experience with TypeScript, Node.js, and ServiceNow REST APIs.
- Experience with Azure services such as Cosmos DB, Azure AI Search, Azure Kubernetes Service, Blob Storage, or Azure AI Foundry.
- Experience with ServiceNow Automated Testing Framework.
- Experience with Pydantic v2, structured output modeling, and evaluation frameworks such as RAGAS or Braintrust.
- ServiceNow certifications such as Certified System Administrator, Certified Application Developer, or Certified Implementation Specialist.
- Experience supporting enterprise AI, ServiceNow automation, or implementation acceleration tools in consulting or client-facing environments.

The annual salary for this position will be in the range of $135,000 - $155,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
