Appian Architect

00070031761

Role Summary

The Appian Architect owns the end-to-end technical design and delivery quality of Appian solutions built for Singapore Government agencies and statutory boards. The role combines deep platform expertise with the judgement to translate public-sector policy, data-governance, and security requirements into a compliant, scalable Appian architecture. The Architect is the primary technical authority during solutioning, design governance reviews, and production go-live, and acts as the escalation point for complex integration, performance, and security issues across the engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead solution architecture and design for Appian applications delivered to Singapore Government/Statutory Board clients, ensuring alignment with agency IT policies and Smart Nation / client’s technical standards.

• Define and govern the Appian data model, CDT structures, and RDBMS design in accordance with data classification and data-sharing requirements applicable to public-sector systems.

• Own the security architecture of Appian solutions, including group- and rule-based security models, records-level security, and role-based access control aligned to agency policy.

• Design and review SAIL interfaces, process models, Records, Sites, and Task Reports for usability, performance, and maintainability at scale.

• Architect external integrations (Integration Objects, connected systems, web services/APIs) with government and whole-of-government shared platforms, ensuring compliance with agency network and data-exchange controls.

• Direct the design, build, and governance of custom Appian plug-ins where out-of-the-box capability is insufficient.

• Lead requirements workshops with government stakeholders and translate policy/business requirements into an end-to-end Appian solution blueprint.

• Own Appian environment strategy, installation, and server-side configuration guidance across Dev/Test/Staging/Production tiers, typically hosted on Government Commercial Cloud (GCC) or agency-managed infrastructure.

• Establish and enforce Appian DevOps practices (application packaging, deployment pipelines, version control, environment promotion) suited to public-sector change-management and audit requirements.

• Run and interpret Appian HealthCheck results, log analysis, and performance diagnostics, and drive remediation of findings before audit or go-live.

• Provide technical governance in Architecture Review Board (ARB) sessions, security reviews, and Vulnerability Assessment/Penetration Testing (VAPT) cycles required for government system deployment.

• Mentor Senior Developers and Developers on the team and enforce Appian and agency-specific coding/design standards.

Required Skills & Experience

• At least 5+ years of hands-on Appian development/architecture experience and 10+ years overall in IT.

• Proven experience with Appian 20.x and above, including newer platform capabilities (Process HQ, AI Skills/Document extraction, Robotic Process Automation, as applicable).

• Strong understanding of defining and managing Appian security groups, role maps, and security inheritance.

• Advanced SAIL scripting skills for complex, high-volume interfaces.

• Deep experience building and using CDTs, including nested and versioned data types.

• Extensive experience with Task Reports, Records, and Sites design for enterprise-scale deployments.

• Proven track record of external system integration using Integration Objects, connectors, and web services/APIs.

• Experience developing and governing custom Appian plug-ins.

• Sound knowledge of relational data modelling and RDBMS concepts (Oracle, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server, commonly used in government environments).

• Strong grasp of Appian best practices, design patterns and platform guidelines published by Appian.

• Ability to gather requirements directly from government business owners and produce an end-to-end Appian solution.

• Working understanding of Appian installation, server-side configuration, and environment architecture.

• Ability to analyse and troubleshoot issues from Appian and application server log files.

• Familiarity with Appian DevOps tooling and CI/CD adoption for enterprise deployments.

• Experience running and acting on Appian HealthCheck reports.

Certifications

• Appian Certified Associate Developer.

• Appian Certified Senior Developer.

• Appian Certified Lead Developer.

• Additional certifications in cloud (AWS/Azure/GCC) or security (e.g., CISSP, CISA) are advantageous given public-sector cloud and audit requirements.

Singapore Public Sector — Specific Requirements

• Prior experience delivering IT projects for Singapore Government ministries, agencies, or statutory boards is strongly preferred.

• Working knowledge of Singapore's public-sector IT governance and security frameworks (e.g., Government Instruction Manuals such as IM8, and prevailing Smart Nation technical guidelines) as they apply to Appian deployments.

• Understanding of Government-on-Cloud (GCC 2.0) hosting models and the associated network segregation, data-residency, and change-control requirements.

• Experience supporting security assessments, VAPT remediation, and audit evidence preparation typically required before go-live on government systems.

• Awareness of data classification schemes (e.g., Restricted/Confidential/Sensitive handling) and their implications for Appian data model and integration design.

• Willingness to work on-site at government premises where required, including in environments with restricted internet/device access.

Soft Skills & Client Engagement

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage confidently with senior government stakeholders and steering committees.

• Strong client-facing skills, including experience presenting architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical audiences.

• Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple government stakeholders and vendors.

• Strong written communication for architecture documents, security submissions, and audit responses.
