DevOps Engineer
About the role
As a DevOps and DevSecOps Engineer, you will make an impact by designing secure, scalable, and efficient software delivery solutions using GitHub and Azure DevOps. You will collaborate with engineering, product, security, compliance, and operations teams to establish reusable pipeline architectures that align with enterprise standards and support business-critical sales and marketing platforms.

In this role, you will:
- Architect integrated DevOps and DevSecOps pipelines using GitHub and Azure DevOps, incorporating automated builds, testing, deployment, security validation, and compliance controls.
- Optimize continuous integration and continuous delivery workflows by establishing effective branching strategies, build automation, deployment patterns, configuration management, artifact versioning, and environment standards.
- Define security controls across the software delivery lifecycle, including automated security testing, vulnerability scanning, secret management, policy enforcement, and audit readiness.
- Develop reusable reference architectures, technical patterns, and documentation while mentoring engineering teams on infrastructure as code, automated testing, secure coding, and modern software delivery practices.
- Establish monitoring and observability strategies for pipelines and runtime environments, support root-cause analysis, and continuously evaluate platform enhancements that improve reliability, delivery speed, security, and operational resilience.

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a client or Cognizant office in Chicago IL. What you need to have to be considered
- 10 to 12 years of experience designing and implementing complex DevOps solutions, including hands-on expertise with GitHub and Azure DevOps platform configuration and pipeline architecture.
- Strong practical knowledge of DevSecOps, including automated security testing, vulnerability scanning, secret management, policy enforcement, and integrating security controls into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience designing infrastructure as code and automated deployment solutions that scale consistently across multiple environments while supporting reliability, security, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated success collaborating with product, engineering, operations, security, and compliance stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical technical architectures.
- Strong knowledge of cloud-based delivery environments, modern software engineering practices, monitoring, observability, incident analysis, and application security.
These will help you stand out
- Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert, GitHub certification, or a comparable DevOps or security credential.
- Experience supporting sales, marketing, campaign management, or customer experience platforms.
- Experience developing enterprise reference architectures, reusable pipeline patterns, and technical governance standards.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills, with the ability to explain architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience helping distributed or hybrid teams adopt consistent documentation, collaboration, and tooling practices.

Compensation
The annual salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $140,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, subject to performance and applicable plan terms.
