About the role
As a Senior Python Developer, you will make an impact by designing and building scalable Python applications, REST APIs, and data-driven solutions. You will be a valued member of the technology delivery team and work collaboratively with engineers, architects, product partners, and client stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and maintainable solutions.

In this role, you will:
Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Python applications using object-oriented and/or functional programming practices.
Build and consume REST APIs using frameworks such as Flask, FastAPI, or Django.
Apply API design principles, including authentication and authorization using OAuth or JSON Web Tokens, API versioning, error handling, and documentation.
Develop event-driven and asynchronous solutions using Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
Create efficient SQL queries and data solutions using BigQuery or comparable large-scale SQL databases.
Work with relational and/or NoSQL databases, optimizing queries for application performance and scalability.
Participate in code reviews, troubleshoot technical issues, and use Git-based version control to support high-quality software delivery.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and technical requirements into effective solutions.
Work model

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a client or Cognizant office in New York, New York. What you need to have to be considered
6 to 8 years of software development experience, with strong proficiency in Python.
Experience applying object-oriented and/or functional programming concepts to production applications.
Proven experience designing, developing, and consuming REST APIs.
Hands-on experience with Flask, FastAPI, Django, or a comparable Python web framework.
Strong knowledge of API design principles, including OAuth, JSON Web Tokens, authorization, authentication, and versioning.
Experience with SQL databases and writing efficient queries.
Proficiency with Git or another distributed version control system.
Strong problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and attention-to-detail skills.
These will help you stand out
Experience developing event-driven or asynchronous solutions using Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
Experience using BigQuery or a comparable platform for large-scale data analytics and querying.
Familiarity with both relational and NoSQL databases.
Experience improving API reliability, scalability, security, or performance.
Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to engineering and nontechnical stakeholders.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $65,447 to $117,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
