Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced (15+ years of relevant experience) Senior/Principal Lab Informatics & Digital Lab Consultant to lead consulting, assessment, transformation and large-scale implementation initiatives across Manufacturing, Quality Control (QC) and Analytical laboratory environments.
The role requires a strong IT and Lab Informatics background, combined with sufficient laboratory business understanding to operate effectively at the intersection of Business, Science and Technology. The consultant will engage senior Business and IT stakeholders, manage competing priorities, define transformation strategies and translate recommendations into executable programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Consulting & Stakeholder Leadership
- Lead Digital Lab consulting, assessments, strategy, application rationalization, technology evaluation and transformation roadmap engagements.
- Assess laboratory processes, applications, integrations, data, instruments, hardware and infrastructure.
- Facilitate workshops and engage effectively with Laboratory Business, Manufacturing, QC, Quality, IT, Enterprise Architecture and senior leadership.
- Translate business challenges into pragmatic technology strategies, target-state solutions, business cases and investment priorities.
Lab Technology & Solution Expertise
- Provide consulting leadership across the Lab Informatics landscape including LIMS, ELN, LES/LED, CDS, SDMS, scientific data platforms and instrument connectivity.
- Understand integrations with enterprise platforms including ERP, MES, QMS and data/analytics ecosystems.
- Bring awareness of emerging technologies including Cloud/SaaS, AI/GenAI, advanced analytics, automation, IoT and intelligent/connected laboratories.
- Define holistic target-state solutions and transformation roadmaps spanning process, applications, data, integration, instruments and infrastructure.
Program & Commercial Leadership
- Translate consulting recommendations into executable large-scale implementation programs.
- Define program scope, workstreams, delivery approach, governance, milestones, resource requirements, dependencies and timelines.
- Develop effort estimates, support pricing and commercial modelling.
Required Experience & Skills
- Typically 15–18+ years of experience in Lab Informatics, Digital Lab, Scientific IT or related consulting roles.
- Strong Life Sciences experience, particularly across Manufacturing and QC laboratory environments.
- Strong understanding of LIMS, ELN, LES/LED, CDS, SDMS and the broader laboratory technology ecosystem.
- Good understanding of laboratory instruments, connectivity, scientific data, hardware and supporting infrastructure.
- Proven experience leading consulting assessments, transformation strategy/roadmap and large-scale implementation planning.
- Strong estimation, resource planning, pricing and commercial capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage senior Business and IT stakeholders, conflicting priorities and complex customer engagements.
- Strong workshop facilitation, consulting, negotiation, influencing and executive communication skills.
- Ability to drive decisions without direct authority over customer stakeholders.

The annual salary for this position is between $90,000 - $150,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
