Senior Developer - Java, SQL & Unix (Asset Management Operations) (Hybrid)
About the Role
Cognizant is seeking a Senior Developer - Java, SQL & Unix to join our Asset Management Technology team. This role is ideal for a hands-on technology leader with deep expertise in Java, SQL, and Unix/Linux technologies, combined with experience supporting business-critical financial services applications.
You will lead the design, development, enhancement, and support of enterprise applications that enable asset management operations. Working closely with business stakeholders, product owners, architects, and engineering teams, you will drive technology solutions that are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business objectives.
In This Role, You Will
- Lead the design, development, enhancement, and support of Java-based enterprise applications supporting Asset Management Operations.
- Translate business and operational requirements into scalable technical solutions and application designs.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to development teams while promoting software engineering best practices.
- Develop and maintain applications utilizing Java, SQL, and Unix/Linux scripting technologies.
- Design, build, and optimize batch processing, automation solutions, and enterprise integrations.
- Partner with business, operations, and technology teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet operational and strategic objectives.
- Conduct code reviews and technical design reviews to ensure quality, performance, maintainability, and security.
- Troubleshoot complex application, database, and integration issues while driving root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions.
- Collaborate with database teams to optimize data structures, SQL performance, and data integrity.
- Support application deployments and production stability in partnership with infrastructure and DevOps teams.
- Partner with Quality Assurance teams to support functional, integration, regression, and performance testing efforts.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, solution designs, and operational procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions that enhance business and technology outcomes.
Work model

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in New York, NY. Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in software development, application design, and technical leadership within enterprise environments.
- Strong hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting applications using Java.
- Advanced SQL expertise, including database design, query optimization, performance tuning, and stored procedure development.
- Strong Unix/Linux scripting experience supporting automation, batch processing, and operational workflows.
- Experience delivering and supporting high-volume, business-critical enterprise applications.
- Working knowledge of Asset Management, Capital Markets, Investment Operations, or Financial Services domains.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across applications, databases, and integrations.
- Experience mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and leading technical delivery efforts.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within Asset Management, Investment Management, Custody Operations, or Capital Markets organizations.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern application development methodologies.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps practices.
- Knowledge of application monitoring, production support, and performance management tools.
- Experience supporting large-scale distributed enterprise applications in regulated environments.
Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until October 14th, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $ 65,447 to $ 117,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
