Job Description:
Role Description: Vertex Tax System Engineer
- This role focuses on supporting the implementation, configuration, and maintenance of enterprise tax solutions using Vertex, along with assisting in integrations across Finance, ERP, Billing, and Revenue systems.
- The ideal candidate has foundational experience in Vertex configuration and indirect tax processes (Sales & Use Tax, VAT/GST), along with working knowledge of system integrations and enterprise application environments.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation and enhancement of Vertex tax solutions across Finance and Revenue systems
- Configure Vertex (O Series) components including tax rules, jurisdictions, rates, and exemptions
- Assist in building and maintaining integrations between Vertex and ERP, Billing, and other upstream/downstream systems
- Work with cross-functional teams (Finance, Tax, Engineering) to understand requirements and support solution delivery
- Help validate tax calculations, troubleshoot issues, and resolve data discrepancies
- Support data mapping, transaction flows, and reconciliation processes
- Participate in testing, deployment, and post-production support activities
- Contribute to documentation, including configuration, integration flows, and support runbooks
- Follow engineering best practices, coding standards, and compliance requirements
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in Vertex or similar tax systems implementation/support
- Basic understanding of indirect tax concepts (Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST)
- Hands-on experience with Vertex configuration (rules, rates, jurisdictions, exemptions)
- Exposure to integrations using APIs (REST/SOAP), or middleware platforms (MuleSoft, Boomi, Informatica, etc.)
- Understanding of Finance business processes such as Quote-to-Cash or Record-to-Report
- Familiarity with data formats like JSON/XML and basic data transformation concepts
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Experience working in Agile environments with version control (e.g., Git)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Finance Systems, or related field
Desired Skills
- Exposure to ERP, billing, or revenue systems
- Experience working in SaaS or subscription-based business environments
- Basic understanding of financial compliance and audit requirements
- Willingness to learn and grow in tax systems and enterprise integrations
