As a Senior Backend Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and optimizing scalable backend services and API solutions that power modern digital applications. You will be a valued member of our engineering team and work collaboratively with frontend developers, architects, DevOps engineers, product owners, and other cross-functional stakeholders to deliver secure, high-performing, cloud-native solutions.

In this role, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
- Build and manage GraphQL schemas, resolvers, queries, and mutations to support React-based Micro Frontend (MFE) applications.
- Partner closely with frontend engineering teams to define API contracts, optimize data flow, and enhance application performance.
- Develop cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services and modern microservices architectures.
- Contribute to code reviews, architectural discussions, CI/CD processes, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives within Agile delivery teams.
What you need to have to be considered
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, including extensive backend development expertise.
- Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, NestJS, and ExpressJS.
- Proven experience designing, building, and scaling GraphQL APIs in enterprise environments.
- Strong cloud experience with AWS, including services such as AWS Lambda, AWS AppSync, and AWS CDK.
- Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures and working with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, MongoDB, and Redis.
- Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices.
- Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodologies and participation in sprint-based delivery teams.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
These will help you stand out
- Experience working with React and Micro Frontend (MFE) architectures.
- Exposure to Java and Spring Boot development.
- Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
- Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, ELK, Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
- Experience supporting large-scale, high-availability enterprise applications.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset with a track record of delivering complex technical solutions.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $57,000 - $91,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
