About the role
As a Senior Backend QA Engineer – API & Data Testing, you will make an impact by ensuring the quality, reliability, and integrity of enterprise applications through comprehensive testing of APIs, databases, and batch processing workflows. You will be a valued member of the Quality Engineering team and work collaboratively with developers, business analysts, product owners, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that support business objectives.
In this role, you will:
Design and execute test scenarios for REST and SOAP APIs to validate functionality, performance, and business requirements.
Perform database testing and data validation activities using SQL to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and consistency across applications.
Validate batch processes, ETL workflows, data transformations, and file-processing systems to ensure successful execution and reconciliation.
Analyze test results, identify defects, and collaborate with development teams to drive timely issue resolution.
Participate in test planning, requirement reviews, regression testing, and continuous quality improvement initiatives within Agile delivery environments.

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week onsite at a client or Cognizant office in Fort Lauderdale, FL. What you need to have to be considered
7+ years of strong experience in API Testing using REST and SOAP services.
Advanced knowledge of SQL and Database Testing with the ability to validate data integrity and backend processes.
Hands-on experience in Batch Testing, ETL Testing, and Data Validation.
Experience using tools such as Postman, Swagger, SoapUI, SQL Server, Oracle, Control-M, Airflow, or similar technologies.
Strong understanding of integration, regression, end-to-end, and data testing methodologies.
Experience working in Agile environments and using defect management tools such as JIRA or Azure DevOps.
These will help you stand out
Experience with ETL and data warehouse testing initiatives.
Exposure to workflow orchestration and scheduling platforms.
Knowledge of test automation frameworks or API automation tools.
Experience in highly regulated or data-intensive industries.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
