Mainframe Developer

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise-scale mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, IMS, and related mainframe technologies, with a proven ability to support critical business systems, troubleshoot production issues, and deliver high-quality software solutions.

In this role, you will:

· Design, develop, and implement mainframe applications and system enhancements.

· Develop and maintain programs using COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, IMS DB/DC, and VSAM.

· Work with XML, SAS applications, and TIBCO integrations to support enterprise data processing needs.

· Analyse business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

· Perform coding, unit testing, debugging, and system integration activities.

· Support production systems by troubleshooting issues and resolving defects promptly.

Work model

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Toronto, ON. What you need to have to be considered

· Strong experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL, and DB2 development.

· Hands-on expertise in IMS DB/DC, VSAM, TSO, and Host/Mainframe environments.

· Experience designing and developing complex mainframe applications.

· Proficiency working with XML and enterprise data integration solutions.

· Knowledge of SAS and SAS-based applications within a mainframe ecosystem.

· Experience with Mainframe Automation Testing tools and methodologies.

· Familiarity with TIBCO integration technologies and middleware platforms.

· Experience working in Agile and DevOps environments.

· Knowledge of application modernisation and legacy system migration initiatives.

Total compensation - We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between CAD 71100– CAD 112000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
