Senior Java Developer
About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and delivering high-quality enterprise applications that support critical business operations. You will be a valued member of the technology team and work collaboratively with clients, architects, business stakeholders, and cross-functional delivery teams to drive successful project outcomes.
In This Role, You Will:
- Drive end-to-end software development activities across the full application lifecycle, from design through deployment and support.
- Develop, enhance, and maintain scalable applications using Java, Spring Boot, PL/SQL, and Oracle technologies.
- Ensure on-time delivery of high-quality solutions while maintaining strong coding standards and minimizing production defects.
- Execute and support application deployments across various environments while ensuring system stability and performance.
- Collaborate directly with client stakeholders to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and align deliverables with business objectives.
- Leverage AI-powered tools and emerging technologies to improve development efficiency, automate processes, and accelerate delivery.
- Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and deliver business value.
Work Model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 3 days per week in a client office in Tempe, Arizona. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
- Strong experience developing enterprise applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Hands-on experience with PL/SQL development, query optimization, and database programming.
- Experience working with Oracle Database technologies.
- Understanding of AI and Agentic AI concepts, including the ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity and solution delivery.
- Exposure to Kubernetes, containerization technologies, or cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience working within Agile software development environments.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with experience collaborating directly with clients.
These Will Help You Stand Out
- Experience supporting large-scale healthcare or payer-related technology environments.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and cloud-native application development.
- Experience implementing DevOps, CI/CD, and automated deployment practices.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted software engineering and development acceleration tools.
- Ability to mentor junior developers and contribute to technical leadership initiatives.

The annual salary for this position is between $60,000 - $93,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
