Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Java Developer (GenAI) to join our team and contribute to the development of scalable, cloud-native enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, Azure, Kafka, and SQL, combined with hands-on experience leveraging Generative AI technologies to accelerate software delivery and improve engineering productivity.

This role will focus on building modern backend solutions while utilizing AI-assisted development tools such as Codex and Claude, as well as designing AI-driven workflows and agents that support the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The successful candidate will work in a collaborative Agile environment, delivering innovative solutions for a large-scale healthcare technology ecosystem.

About the Role

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise-grade Java applications and microservices while integrating modern AI capabilities into the software engineering process. You will leverage Generative AI tools, AI agents, and cloud technologies to enhance development efficiency, improve code quality, and support innovative business solutions.

You will collaborate closely with architects, product owners, and cross-functional engineering teams to build scalable, secure, and high-performance applications. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of traditional software engineering and emerging AI-driven development practices, helping shape the future of enterprise application delivery.

The ideal candidate is a strong Java developer who is passionate about modern software architecture and excited about applying Generative AI technologies to real-world engineering challenges.

In This Role, You Will

· Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable Java applications, REST APIs, and microservices using Spring Boot.

· Build and support cloud-native solutions deployed on Microsoft Azure.

· Develop and maintain event-driven integrations and distributed systems utilizing Apache Kafka.

· Create and optimize backend services and data-driven applications using SQL and modern software engineering best practices.

· Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Codex to accelerate coding, refactoring, testing, debugging, and documentation activities.

· Design, develop, and integrate AI agents that enhance and automate software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.

· Utilize Generative AI tools and Large Language Models (LLMs), including Claude and similar technologies, to improve engineering productivity and solution delivery.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including architects, product owners, and fellow developers, to deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions.

· Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives to promote engineering excellence and innovation.

Required Qualifications

· Java Microservices Development: Strong hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and Microservices architecture, with the ability to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable enterprise applications.

· Cloud & Integration Expertise: Experience with Microsoft Azure, Apache Kafka, and SQL, including building cloud-ready services, event-driven integrations, and data-driven backend solutions.

· AI-Assisted Engineering using Codex: Hands-on experience with Codex is mandatory, with the ability to apply AI-assisted development for code generation, refactoring, unit testing, debugging, documentation, and accelerating the software development lifecycle.

· AI Agent Development for AIDLC: Ability to design, build, and integrate AI agents into AIDLC workflows to automate or augment activities across requirements analysis, development, testing, code review, documentation, and delivery.

· Generative AI & Agentic Development: Working knowledge of Claude or similar LLM-based development tools, including prompt engineering, agentic workflows, API/tool integration, and applying GenAI responsibly within enterprise software engineering.

Salary and Other Compensation:

Applications will be accepted until November 22nd , 2026.

The annual salary for this position is between $62,000 - $99,000 depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
