Cognizant is seeking a Senior SQL Server DBA for a full-time opportunity in Brampton, ON.
Key Responsibilities (Performance Tuning Focus)
- Lead enterprise-wide SQL Server performance tuning initiatives across mission-critical production environments.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex database performance issues, including blocking, deadlocks, latch contention, memory pressure, and CPU bottlenecks.
- Perform advanced query optimization using execution plans, index analysis, Dynamic Management Views (DMVs), and wait statistics.
- Design and implement indexing, partitioning, and database architecture improvements to support high-volume workloads.
- Conduct proactive database health assessments and recommend performance improvement opportunities.
- Monitor and optimize SQL Server resource utilization, including CPU, memory, storage, and I/O performance.
- Collaborate with application development teams to optimize database-intensive applications, stored procedures, and T-SQL code.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for critical performance incidents and implement preventive solutions.
- Lead performance benchmarking, capacity planning, and scalability assessments to support future business growth.
· Drive automation initiatives using PowerShell and T-SQL to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual intervention.
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- 10 years of experience with SQL Server Database Administration and Development with Performance Tuning on Slow running queries with Automation.
- 8 plus years of experience with SQL Performance Tuning & Optimization.
- Experience with Always On Availability Groups / HA-DR.
- Query Optimization & Execution Plan Analysis.
- PowerShell Automation & Scripting.
- SQL Server Upgrades & Migrations
Total Compensation
The base salary for this position ranges between $77500 to $91000 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.
