As a Lead Full Stack Developer, you will make an impact by designing and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing healthcare payer applications that enhance member and provider experiences. You will be a valued member of a multidisciplinary engineering team and work collaboratively with product owners, business analysts, UX designers, quality engineering teams, and cloud engineering partners to deliver innovative digital healthcare solutions.

This is an On-site role based on business requirements in Norfolk - VA or Atlanta, GA. Regardless of work arrangement, we support a healthy work–life balance through our wellbeing programs.

In this role, you will:
- Design and develop modern front-end applications using Angular (9–12) and React to deliver intuitive, accessible, and responsive user experiences.
- Build and maintain secure, scalable Node.js services that support healthcare payer functions such as claims processing, eligibility, enrollment, and billing.
- Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, and UX teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions and implementation plans.
- Optimize application performance across front-end and backend components, improving responsiveness, scalability, and overall user experience.
- Develop reusable UI components, coding standards, and engineering best practices to improve consistency and maintainability across projects.
- Implement robust monitoring, logging, alerting, and error-handling capabilities to ensure application reliability and operational excellence.
- Conduct code reviews and mentor engineering teams, promoting secure development practices, clean code principles, and technical excellence.
- Partner with quality engineering teams to support test automation strategies, improve test coverage, and reduce production defects.
What you need to have to be considered
- Extensive experience in full stack software engineering, delivering secure, scalable, and maintainable enterprise applications.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Angular (9–12) and React, including building reusable component libraries and accessible user interfaces.
- Proven experience developing Node.js and RESTful backend services supporting high-volume, business-critical applications.
- Experience with AWS cloud services, including CI/CD pipelines, cloud-native application deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
- Strong understanding of healthcare payer operations, including claims adjudication, eligibility, benefits configuration, enrollment, and member/provider workflows.
- Demonstrated expertise in software engineering best practices, including secure coding, code reviews, logging, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Experience collaborating in Agile environments with product management, UX, DevOps, and Quality Engineering teams.
- Ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor developers, and drive engineering excellence across distributed teams.
These will help you stand out
- Experience modernizing healthcare platforms and digital member/provider portals.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance, PHI protection standards, and healthcare data governance practices.
- Experience building highly available, cloud-native microservices architectures.
- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks and quality engineering best practices.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.

Salary and Other Compensation:
The annual salary for this position is between $81,000 – $157,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
