Schedule: Saturday – Wednesday, 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
Training: 3 weeks of required training

Job Summary
The Patient Advocate is a vital role in hospitals and medical centers, responsible for assessing, communicating, and acting upon potential eligibility determinations. This includes evaluating patient demographics, household composition, financial holdings, medical status, and specific program criteria to secure Medicaid, Social Security, and insurance.
Key Responsibilities
• Collect and review patient information to determine eligibility.
• Prepare documents and review them for accuracy and completeness.
• Provide technical assistance to clients and patients.
• Create and maintain files.
• Ensure accurate documentation is maintained.
• Manage caseloads efficiently.
• Maintain and update the database, including documentation within Epic.
• Develop and retain professional relationships with hospital staff.
• Maintain and respect patient confidentiality.
• Adhere to HIPAA and EMTALA laws.
• Work effectively with diverse groups of people, demonstrating effective communication, organization, and time management.
• Will be required to travel locally.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Insurance and medical documentation with patients.
Qualifications
• Working knowledge of Medicaid eligibility and programs required.
• Experience with the Epic electronic health record system required.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
• Proficiency in using relevant software and databases.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
• High level of empathy and patience when dealing with patients.
• Basic understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance requirements.
Requirements
• High School Diploma
• Associate's degree or equivalent preferred
• One year of related experience
• Knowledge of Medicaid required
• Epic system experience required
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is between $20.00 – $22.00 per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
