00068650301

Oracle Database Platform Engineer

Only candidates, with existing Netherlands/EU work authorization should apply, Sponsorship is not provided for this role.

The engagement aims to reshape the database offering for the entire group by introducing a 'Database as a Service' model and expanding the current team with additional capabilities. It involves managing day-to-day database operations, including vulnerability management, service level management, routine backups, and system monitoring. Cognizant will provide engineering resources as needed, design and develop an automated database provisioning platform.

The engagement will operate under a blended team model, combining DevOps engineers and Database Platform Engineers. The team will adopt the current agile Scrum framework, with responsibilities for both development and operational support. The team will work in sync with existing infrastructure and teams, ensuring smooth integration and knowledge sharing.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Senior Database Platform Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Database Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing, building and managing Oracle database platforms in a hybrid setup (Azure and on-prem data centers) ensuring the automation, scalability, reliability, and security of database services.

You will be involved in the full lifecycle of new solutions—requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and production rollout—along with day-to-day operations, incident response, and continuous optimization.

You will collaborate closely with application teams, infrastructure, security, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions on time and to agreed service levels.

In this role, you will:

· Install, configure, automate and administer Oracle Database (single instance and clustered as applicable), including upgrades and patching, parameter management, and instance/database lifecycle operations.

· Design, implement, and support high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) (e.g., Oracle RAC, Data Guard/Active Data Guard, and backup-based recovery patterns as applicable).

· Own backup (Rubrik), restore, and recovery processes; regularly test restores and contribute to disaster recovery readiness.

· Monitor (Splunk) and troubleshoot availability and performance (AWR/ASH, waits, locks, capacity, storage/IO); perform performance tuning (SQL tuning, indexing strategy, statistics, optimizer-related troubleshooting).

· Implement and maintain database security controls: users/roles/privileges, auditing, encryption (TDE), and hardening aligned to internal standards.

· Automate routine DBA operations using scripting (Bash/Shell, Python) and configuration tooling (Ansible); improve reliability through standardization and repeatable runbooks.

· Administer Oracle database hosts on Linux and/or Windows, coordinating OS-level configuration needed for stable database operations (kernel settings, filesystems/ASM, time sync, networking).

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support application releases, troubleshoot production issues, and advise on data model and query patterns.

· Optimize resource usage and cost (capacity planning, licensing considerations, and performance efficiency) while ensuring compliance with SLAs and regulatory requirements.

Work model

· The role is primarily office-based (five days), but partial work-from-home is possible (two to three days in office, rest remote)

What you need to have to be considered

· Strong background in Oracle Database administration: installation, configuration, monitoring, upgrades/patching, performance tuning, security, and backup/restore/recovery (RMAN).

· Hands-on experience with HA/DR technologies such as Oracle RAC and Oracle Data Guard (including switchover/failover planning and execution).

· Strong automation mindset (scripting and repeatable deployments/operations) and solid Linux administration fundamentals.

· Working understanding of networking and storage concepts (latency, throughput, IOPS) and their impact on Oracle performance.

This will help you stand out

· Oracle certifications (e.g., Oracle Database Administration OCA/OCP) are a plus.

What we offer (Netherlands)

· Competitive salary.

· Access to Udemy and Cognizant Academy for continuous learning.

· NS Business Card for travel.

· Technology-driven organization with an open team spirit.

· International work environment.
