About the role
As a Mainframe Developer, you will make an impact by analysing, designing, developing and implementing mainframe solutions that support critical financial services applications. You will be a valued member of the ADM team and work collaboratively with product owners, business partners, technical teams and client stakeholders to translate business needs into clear, reliable technical solutions.
In this role, you will:
· Gather and analyse business and functional requirements for mainframe application enhancements.
· Design, develop, implement and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2 and VSAM.
· Collaborate with product owners and business partners to translate functional requirements into technical designs with clear traceability from concept to implementation.
· Support performance improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to optimize application functionality, reliability and efficiency.
· Use Agile tools and practices to support delivery planning, documentation, testing and collaboration across teams.
Work model: Hybrid
We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring three days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

What you need to have to be considered:
· 7+ years of hands-on experience with mainframe development technologies including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2 and VSAM.
· Experience with requirement gathering, analysis, design, development and implementation activities.
· Understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
· Experience using DevOps tools and concepts, including Git branching strategies and pull or merge requests.
· Experience with Agile tools such as JIRA, Zephyr Scale and Confluence.
· Ability to collaborate with product owners, business partners and technical teams to deliver clear technical designs and solutions.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving and performance improvement skills.

These will help you stand out:
· Experience applying AI-assisted development practices to improve productivity and code quality.
· Experience working in financial services or with banking clients.
· Ability to support modernization, optimization or performance improvement initiatives within mainframe environments.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
· Experience supporting client interview or stakeholder-facing project environments.

Salary and compensation:
The annual salary for this position will be between $60,000 to $93,000 per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
