About the role
As a Full Stack Lead Engineer, you will make an impact by leading the design and development of scalable, high-performance banking applications for our client. You will be a valued member of the Digital Engineering team and work collaboratively with product owners, architects, engineers and stakeholders to deliver cloud-native solutions that support modern banking platforms.
In this role, you will:
· Lead end-to-end architecture and design for reusable, scalable and cloud-native full stack solutions across backend services and frontend integration.
· Drive hands-on development of critical features using Java, Spring Boot, Angular and/or Node.js while ensuring high-quality, maintainable code.
· Serve as the technical anchor for the team, guiding system design, technology choices, code reviews and engineering best practices.
· Mentor engineers, support Agile delivery and collaborate with product owners, architects and stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
· Lead cloud, DevOps and observability practices using AWS, Azure or OpenShift, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Splunk and/or Dynatrace to support reliable delivery and production operations.

What you need to have to be considered:
· 10+ years of professional experience in full stack development, including hands-on engineering and technical leadership responsibilities.
· Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture and modern backend development practices.
· Experience with Angular and/or Node.js, with the ability to contribute across the full stack and support frontend-backend integration.
· Proven architecture and system design experience, including REST APIs, design patterns, scalability, performance, security and reliability considerations.
· Hands-on cloud engineering experience with AWS, Azure and/or OpenShift, including Docker and Kubernetes.
· Experience building and optimizing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and strong knowledge of Git branching and merging practices.
· Experience leading engineering teams, mentoring developers, conducting code reviews and driving delivery accountability in Agile environments.
· Experience supporting production systems and using observability tools such as Splunk and/or Dynatrace.

These will help you stand out:
· Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar platforms to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
· Experience in banking or financial services technology environments.
· Ability to introduce automation, reduce technical debt and continuously improve engineering processes.
· Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical designs and decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
· Experience leading delivery in high-frequency release environments with automated testing, security scanning and deployment pipelines.

Salary and compensation:
The annual salary for this position will be between 74,000 CAD to 118,000 CAD per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
