We are seeking a highly skilled GeoSpatial Engineer to help design and deliver next-generation mapping and spatial intelligence solutions that enable data-driven decision-making for clients and communities.

About the Role

As a Consulting Manager – GeoSpatial Engineer, you will make an impact by designing, building, and enhancing enterprise geospatial applications using Java Full Stack and Spring Boot technologies.

You will develop scalable map-centric services, optimize geospatial data processing, and deliver secure, high-performance solutions that help users visualize, analyze, and derive insights from complex spatial data. Working closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders, you will drive innovative geospatial capabilities that support operational efficiency, sustainability initiatives, and strategic decision-making.

In This Role, You Will

Geospatial Application Development

  • Design and develop scalable geospatial services that process and render complex spatial datasets with high performance, reliability, and accuracy.
  • Build Java Full Stack solutions that power interactive mapping applications and geospatial workflows.
  • Develop Spring Boot microservices supporting spatial search, routing, proximity analysis, and map-based business functions.
  • Deliver secure, resilient, and scalable geospatial platforms following enterprise architecture standards.

Data Engineering & Integration

  • Build data ingestion pipelines to collect, validate, transform, and store spatial data from multiple sources.
  • Integrate external mapping services, APIs, and geospatial data feeds into enterprise applications.
  • Maintain high-quality geospatial repositories through strong governance, validation, and quality controls.
  • Support spatial data management and optimization initiatives.

Performance & Platform Optimization

  • Optimize database queries, indexing strategies, and data access patterns for spatial datasets.
  • Monitor system performance through logs, metrics, and observability tools.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements that enhance reliability and responsiveness.
  • Ensure solutions support enterprise scalability and availability requirements.

Collaboration & Solution Delivery

  • Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Support Agile delivery practices including estimation, planning, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Demonstrate completed features and gather stakeholder feedback to continuously improve solutions.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, operational runbooks, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement

  • Evaluate emerging geospatial technologies, frameworks, and tools.
  • Recommend enhancements that improve user experience, engineering productivity, and solution quality.
  • Support sustainable and socially impactful initiatives through advanced spatial analytics and visualization capabilities.

Work Model

We believe hybrid work is the way forward as we strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring collaboration with client and Cognizant teams. Specific in-office expectations will be communicated based on project requirements and location.

What You Must Have to Be Considered

  • 8-10 years of experience designing and developing enterprise applications using Java Full Stack technologies.
  • Strong experience building Spring Boot-based microservices and distributed applications.
  • Hands-on experience developing geospatial, GIS, mapping, or location-based solutions.
  • Strong understanding of spatial data models, coordinate systems, and geospatial visualization concepts.
  • Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases and query optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies integrated with Java-based back-end systems.
  • Experience with software testing, secure coding practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile delivery methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

These Will Help You Succeed

  • Experience working with enterprise GIS platforms and mapping frameworks.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native geospatial architectures.
  • Experience implementing real-time geospatial analytics solutions.
  • Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes environments.
  • Exposure to geospatial standards, APIs, and open-source mapping technologies.
  • Experience supporting sustainability, infrastructure, logistics, or smart-city initiatives.

Compensation (Pay Transparency)

  • Base salary range : $110,000 - $129,500 annually, depending on experience, skills, and location.
  • This position is eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
