About the Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing, developing, and optimizing enterprise applications that support critical business operations. You will be a valued member of the engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, product owners, quality engineering teams, operations teams, and fellow developers to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing software solutions.

In This Role, You Will
- Design, develop, and support scalable microservices and enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and RESTful web services.
- Build clean, maintainable, and reusable code while adhering to engineering best practices and coding standards.
- Optimize application performance, database interactions, and system reliability across enterprise platforms.
- Perform code reviews, mentor junior developers, and champion software quality through automated testing and continuous integration practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver business-critical solutions and continuously improve development processes.
Work Model

Based on this role's business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2-3 days per week in a Cognizant or client office in New York City, New York. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
- 8+ years of software engineering experience developing enterprise applications using Java technologies.
- Strong expertise in Core Java, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Microservices Architecture, REST APIs, Data Structures, and Algorithms.
- Experience working with Oracle, MySQL, and PL/SQL databases, including performance tuning and optimization.
- Proficiency with JUnit, Mockito, automated testing frameworks, and maintaining high code coverage standards.
- Experience with Git, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development lifecycle practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex application issues and perform root-cause analysis in production environments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a hybrid and cross-functional team environment.
These Will Help You Stand Out
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of gRPC, Netty, and distributed systems architectures.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of secure coding practices, authentication, authorization, and enterprise security standards.
- Experience mentoring developers and driving engineering best practices.
- Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer certification.
- Spring Professional Certification.

Salary and Other Compensation
Applications will be accepted until August 14, 2026.
The annual salary for this position is between $70,000 - $115,000, depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
